Listening to Long Way Home I find myself fascinated by imagining why Taemin would have wanted to write a song in English a language that isn’t even his mother tongue. He toured the world and felt so much joy connecting with countless fans from every corner of it. Here is my experience. I love so many pop artists, I love pop music, and I genuinely respect that culture. But there was always the extra effort of looking up lyrics, running translations, trying to piece together what a song actually meant all because of the language barrier. It never stopped me from loving pop music, but since English isn’t my first language, fully grasping the precise meaning and nuance was always a bit out of reach. Also I’ve watched so many of Taemin's foreign fan friends who don’t speak Korean struggle in the most endearing way to decipher Taemin’s lyrics. It looked like such a joyful little adventure, and it reminded me of all those moments I spent trying to understand English songs myself. It was just so sweet to see. Maybe Taemin saw those moments too, felt something from them, and wanted to give fans around the world a gift. Not simply 'making a song in a foreign language' but expressing love. that’s what it feels like to me. When I imagine it that way, he is so adorable 🥹🩵
