As cyclists travel through Illinois retracing the Trail of Tears, we honor their commitment to preserving the history and legacy of the Cherokee people. Their journey is a powerful act of remembrance. wsiltv.com/news/illinois/che…

The federal government has finally acknowledged the practice of surveillance pricing, months after the NDP raised the alarm and sparked a national conversation about it. But the bill doesn’t ban this disturbing practice - in fact, it doesn’t even mention it by name. Instead, it just promises vague regulatory action in the future. In contrast, Wab Kinew’s NDP government in Manitoba is simply making the practice illegal. That’s the only way to stop big tech and big grocery chains from teaming up to gouge consumers. We’ve put this issue on the table, and we’ll keep building public pressure on the government to act decisively: today’s bill does nothing definitive to protect Canadians from this very real threat. thestar.com/politics/federal…

It's simple. Hospital's costs rise 6% a year. Ontario increased funding by 4%. So hospitals will borrow from banks, cut, and hospital overcrowding will only increase. Healthcare doesn't fail. It functions as designed. theglobeandmail.com/canada/a…

This is a generational difference rather than a difference between cities. The ideology in the US 20 years ago was that rail is important and buses are not. Work from home has destroyed what little basis there was for that belief. Smart agencies are investing in buses now.

Under Ontario Conservatives, everywhere is a drug consumption site. Like your neighborhood park. We all want rehabilitation and abstinence and in the meantime, people don’t deserve to die alone. Or in a park.
A public park is not a supervised consumption site.

16 Montreal police officers are under investigation for keeping the locs of apprehended Black men as trophies. No, this isn't the U.S. It's Canada. The depths of racism never cease to shock, turning human beings into targets and their identities into souvenirs.

Bob Dylan in the NYT today, in a piece where artists in their 80s were asked to describe the best and worst parts of being that age, and whether they had advice for the president on his reaching the milestone. (Dylan apparently passed on the final question, not surprisingly.)

There are now four police investigations linked to the Ford government, including the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility. A 115-page audit has been completely redacted, and the government refuses to say what it contains or who is implicated. #onpoli tinyurl.com/ye8b7nha

19 years in education and I’ve seen more kids who would have been saved by a social worker or counselor than a cop.

Update from Bishop Dr. Imad Haddad on Natalie Abudayyeh: Dear friends and partners, We give thanks to each of you who have prayed and advocated for the safety and release of ELCJHL youth Natalie Abudayyeh after she was detained by Israeli forces on June 2nd. Unfortunately, Natalie has still not been released. We have been informed that she had a court appearance yesterday, and the proceedings will continue in ten days. The other three women who were detained with Natalie remain in prison as well. We are deeply concerned about their continued detention and that these proceedings are being held in Israeli military court, where administrative detention can be extended without official charge or trial. Disturbingly, Natalie’s ongoing detainment is part of a pattern of recent Israeli raids, arrests, and restrictions on Palestinian universities, limiting academic freedom and restricting the right of education. Our youth feel targeted. We are losing an entire generation as our young people struggle to imagine a future in their homeland. Our ELCJHL youth are incredibly dismayed and anxious about the wellbeing and future of Natalie, their sister and friend, and for their own safety here. This pattern of violence, erasure, and fear is destroying Palestinian life. We once again call on the global church to remember your commitment to work for justice, peace, and fullness of life, and we ask you to continue to advocate for Natalie’s immediate release. Please continue to hold Natalie and her family in your prayers. Bishop Dr. Imad Haddad Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land

When Notre-Dame burned in 2019, the world stopped. Today, Russia damages Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a monastery nearly 1,000 years old and older than Notre-Dame itself. A thousand years of history deserves the same attention, the same sympathy, and the same protection.

Blue bags up. Japan 2, Netherlands 2 — an absolute thriller in Arlington. And then the real show started. The Japanese end pulls out thousands of bright blue bags. First they wave them like flags, bouncing and chanting until the whole section is one giant wall of blue. Then — same bags, new mission. They fan out across the stands and scoop up every bottle, wrapper and cup till the seats look brand new. And who's right in the middle of it, grinning with a bag in his hand? Jameis Winston. Giants QB. Heisman winner. Out there cleaning up with the Samurai Blue like it's the best gig of his summer. No chore. No lecture. Just a party that cleans up after itself. Best fans on the planet. 🇯🇵💙
