Up to 1.2 million Australian kids risk missing school due to physical or mental illness. Beyond their health crisis, they feel forgotten. We reconnect them.
ALT Global education ambassador and technology trailblazer Megan Gilmour co-founded MissingSchool in 2012 after her son, Darcy, endured two years of school isolation due to illness. Since then, she has relentlessly championed students facing complex health challenges and school absence through world- and Australian-first initiatives. Megan’s early drive for social justice led her from Sydney’s west to the office of the NSW Finance Minister and later managing global development programs across 24 countries. She is recognised internationally as an award-winning leader, a Churchill Policy Fellow, Deakin Honorary Fellow, and the 2025 ACT Australian of the Year.
