Silo is really a 10-episode ad for Apple Vision Pro.

They've spent 15 years getting zillions of people to carry among the best compact cameras everywhere they go, and still managed to build a privacy brand. This is on-brand for them.

Welp, that was not what I expected.

Apple keynotes are one of the times I feel like a [geeky] 12 year old kid again. Like, just imagining a world where I have a Mac Studio on my desk with an M2 Ultra with 192GB of RAM and six friggin' displays, sorting how many weeks of paper route it'd take to get there.

After months of games and practices – three to five a week – one of the kids on the little league team I’m coaching couldn’t remember my name. The kid’s name is Jackson. 🤦‍♂️

Excited to share our longitudinal infant EEG paper. We find higher income is associated w/ higher power at 2 months, but also reduced change in power between 2-9 months. An awesome collab w/ @LaraJPierce , Mark Wade, & George Sideridis. @CharlesaNelson1 doi.org/10.1016/j.dcn.2023.1…

These are important questions, but critically, they raise design & UX challenges. Health tech has been poor on the UX side, over-relying on training. That won’t be enough this time. My fear: we judge all efforts by the worst of them, & miss opportunities to save money & lives.
Replying to @statnews
@statnews piece on GPT-4-enabled digital scribes. As tech improves & adoption grows, it'll raise the classic automation complacency concerns. Will MDs carefully review AI-drafted notes for errors? Will MDs just accept the AI's assessment/plan? Lots to do. statnews.com/2023/03/28/hosp…

If LLM foundation model training is becoming a sport of kings, costing hundreds of millions of dollars, who is exploring and building the SETI@Home for distributed compute toward an open line of SOTA LLM models?

Residential heat pumps flip the decades-old conventional wisdom. Gas/oil: oversize the furnace to be safe, right-size the hot water tank. HPs: right-size the HVAC, oversize the hot water tank. That’s just one example. Contractors are still learning & figuring this stuff out.

Finished 2022 better than I found it with a perfect (rings) year and a 75 min PR ride. Now at 615 straight days of closing my rings and 2½ years of never skipping a workout, six days a week. Mostly with the help of @bridgethughes67 & patience of @drcarolw. 🤞this is a habit!

My family’s big night? Watching a PBS documentary about autism and loving every bit of it. And, you know, pausing a lot for discussion… @drcarolw

For a couple weeks, our Echo/Alexa devices have been emitting a subtle-but-intentional high-pitched whine when there are unread notifications, just loud enough to hear. Delete notifs, it goes away. Can’t find anything about it in preferences. Anyone know how to shut this off??
Twitter’s giving me ads to follow some of the most — to put it charitably — irrelevant accounts I can imagine. To the point that I’m sitting on the T and have to switch away to something else, lest some green line rando thinks these are my people.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an extended Amazon store outage just affecting checkout like this, with nothing on the AWS status dashboard. Even early morning mid-week, this has to be costing them a ton.

It’s not just for titans like Bob Iger & Logan Roy: Succession planning—explicit or not—is among the most critical responsibilities of nearly any leader. Corporations, startups, non-profits, government, academia: all benefit from shoring up single points of failure amid growth.

Related: my first thought when seeing “Principle Engineer” from a candidate. I assume that requires graduate work in either philosophy or organizational psychology. Wouldn’t always be a bad hire, TBH…
