Excellent work on Black political empowerment and electoral system design!
We often ask who wins elections. But who decides to run? New @ElectoralStdies w/Hayes: Multi-member districts โฌ†๏ธ Black candidate emergenceโ€”and political empowerment matters. We revisit assumptions about US electoral design and show who enters the pipelineโ€”not just who wins.

While Iโ€™m not convinced that a new fusion โ€œpartyโ€ could pull enough GOP votes to elect the DEM nominee in 2024, I support this fusion voting effort based on the logic that it can incentivize multiparty coalitions, which we badly need.
100 leading democracy scholars make a compelling case for re-legalizing fusion voting. "We believe that its revival today would reinvigorate our democracy by improving representation and accountability while strengthening votersโ€™ rightsโ€ฆ" electionlawblog.org/?p=14443โ€ฆ

Trying to get my brother Medicaid/Disability services in TX, my theory = TX "Health & Human Services" made entirely of no reply emails and an intricate series of phone numbers with circular push button tracing to each other in infinite regress to make you quit. Prove me wrong TX.

Tokyo has *ten times* as many bars and restaurants as New York City, by a conservative count. And far more often than in NYC, the person behind the counter is an owner/operator marching to the beat of their own drum & creating a physical space that embodies their personal vision.

Is Electoral Systems and Race a growing subfield? Expanding body of research on how systems shape descriptive representation and party coalitions #IPSA2023 @jacksantucci @laderafrutal @Yuki_Atsusaka
Laws of politics: Seat Product predicts # of leg parties among BIPOC members almost perfectly, across systems, but city racial composition (% BIPOC) and electoral formula shape whether BIPOC members come from fewer or more parties relative to whites #IPSA2023

I'll say Renaissance rather than growing, this work builds on a research agenda that was very active in the 80's and 90's, with Americanists like @trounstine @mevaldini and others continuing this work, but there is definitely growth at #IPSA2023 among comparativists. That's good.
