My #edlr5402 takeaway: Administration can be an isolating job, but we must work together throughout the state and stay connected, especially in regards to social justice. Lots of action just to check boxes but we need a consistent plan!!
After reading Jenkins' article on stereotypes,it is clear to be aware of the diversity you're working w/(adults or students) &to ensure they're in a safe environment w/ you. You must also work to make sure stereotypes are eliminated& everyone is on an even playing field #edlr5402
This is so important in MANY ways, and for sure one of my goals as an administrator. Teachers do many amazing things, yet barely get first-hand recognition. #edlr5402
We need to reflect on our own intentions and how it relates to any biases we may still hold. Elimination of microaggressions, which are usually unintentional, is necessary to improve the equity and justice work we are doing in and outside of our schools #edlr5402
Nathaniel Branden's 6 pillars of self-esteem: self-acceptance, self-assertiveness, self-responsibility, living consciously and living purposefully. Great reminders for ourselves, our students and our staff to keep high self-esteem. #edlr5402
In "Rock My Soul" Hooks says, "Until the legacy of remembered & reenacted trauma is taken seriously, black America cannot heal". This is why we, as educators must ensure we're providing equity and justice within our classrooms & schools so that our students feel safe. #edlr5402
Hooks says, "If black children could not see the predominantly white classroom as a safe place, then how could we relax enough to learn there- to excel?" Great question that we need to always consider when we have students entering our rooms with outside trauma. #EDLR5402
Hooks says,"The assumption that the poor are more in need of material help than of the resources to build healthy self-esteem is false."This is true for our staff& students too.w/o proper mental health, we cannot expect anyone to learn/teach/etc to their full potential. #edlr5402
On pg 83Jenkins says, "Targets of negative stereotypes could also simply avoid threatening situations by carefully conducting research on where to go to school, where to accept a job offer...." This is so backwards & society should work to eliminate this as a whole. #edlr5402
Yesterday, a key step to starting professional learning is safety for your staff to bring their full selves to work, break with previous practice(s), and pinpoint their driving force. Very insightful! #EDLR5402
Really interesting points in "Personalized Professional Learning" in regards to evaluation vs valuation and if the professional learning is worth my time as an educator, or if I as admin am providing valuable learning to staff. #EDLR5402
In "Personalized Professional Learning", it mentions low interest among different topics. How do we involve people when interest is no more than 50% on any given topic? #EDLR5402
If we want our students to engage in rich, creative learning experiences that lead to mastery, then we must provide educators with rich, creative learning experiences that lead to mastery. (Calvert, 2016, p.10)

In the book ย Personalized Professional Learningย
โThe only way we improve our practice is to keep on learning.โ ย โReach out and ask others to join you in the learning process. You only grow as far as you reach.โ #EDLR5402
We are reminded by @thelearningloop that teacher agency for professional learning has a continuum. It may take years to shift the culture of professional learning. Any small steps are important to take! #EDLR5402
"there is not one right way...the most effective approaches to adult PL are personalized. they meet teachers when and where they are...and help them achieve real growth." So many great takeaways from last night with @thelearningloop. #EDLR5402
