Life has been chaotic recently, so I've been quiet here but it's big news time! I've accepted a new faculty position at @JohnsHopkins in the Department of Physics and Astronomy starting this fall. Really excited to dive back into the DC/Baltimore astro community!

My very first PhD student just passed her defense - Congrats Dr. Kiana Burton! 🎉 Feels pretty surreal to now have graduated my own student. Guess I'm a real professor now! 🙃

Save the Date! We’re hosting a community workshop May 5-7, 2025 at the @JHUBloombergCtr in Washington, DC to discuss the future of infrared astrophysics and synergies across the spectrum going into the next decadal survey.

Hello world! The weather is beautiful here at @JHUAPL outside of the windowless conference room that has been my home for the last few days 🫠 Super proud of our FIRSST team for tackling the potential major weaknesses and getting everything submitted this morning!

And that’s a wrap on the semester! Taught my last class of ISM and Fluid Dynamics this morning, and now I can say that I’ve officially been at @JHUArtsSciences for a whole academic year! 🎉

Annual request to please respond with any post-bacc positions in astronomy you know of! Grad admissions was rough this year, and there are lots of awesome undergrads now looking for research positions to help prepare them to apply again.

The weather was looking better so we made a last minute decision to head to my in-laws in Ohio and hope to catch totality. Our pup is trying out the eclipse glasses to make sure we’re ready for the big event! @dog_rates 😎

Excited to be part of this 😎
If anyone would like to get a #Baltimore perspective on the #solareclipse, there will be a briefing at 2 pm with local @JHUPhysicsAstro experts, inc @mmacgreg washingtondc.jhu.edu/upcomin…

Then I’m sticking around for another few days at JPL to work on ESPEX - the Early Star and Planet Evolution Explorer. Wish that TESS had multiple simultaneous bands and small enough pixels to look at young clusters? Have I got the SMEX mission for you! 🚀🔭⭐️

Check out our new paper! This was fun to be a part of. You never know when you’re going to find a huge stellar flare in your data 🤪

I can’t believe this needs to be said but I’m taking time off for the holidays and you should, too! I always took time off in grad school and I’m still a professor… Go spend time doing things you love with people you love!

It’s reference letter season again and as always these rankings are awful. Please please please stop requiring them!!!
I will keep maxing out these nonsense categories until grad programs phase them out.
