Today, I had the joy of joining some of my elected colleagues who have been part of the collective effort to keep Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital open to thank the doctors, nurses, and workers who are the heart and soul of this hospital. Thank you to Dr. Elaine Batchlor for your leadership and for making it clear that MLK Hospital is here to stay with the help of investments from the state and county, including the $25M in state funding and the $20M County financial relief package I put forward with enthusiastic support from the Board of Supervisors. MLK Hospital is a vital institution in our South LA community; the staff works hard daily. We will continue the critical work of ensuring sustainable funding to support this hospital, which provides award-winning care and helps residents access quality healthcare programs and services.

This is a win for the entire community! I'm grateful for the work we all accomplished to secure funding to keep MLK Jr Community Hospital open and serving patients. The real thanks go to all the dedicated professionals and Dr. Elaine Batchlor for the continuous care they provide.
