This is a good point to share that the coens desperately need each other. Joel has all the film making technique and Ethan's got the humor, but neither work well solo. Macbeth was drab and bland, and drive away dolls/honey don't were messes

I think most people fundamentally misunderstand this book, and the project of Salinger's oeuvre, by focusing so much on Holden. The whole focus is ln the quest for a spiritually authentic life in a world that doesn't allow for that.

Catcher in the Rye is a book about a deeply annoying teenager that adults decided was profound because they forgot what teenagers are actually like. Holden Caulfield would be insufferable on social media and we would all mute him immediately.

I think what this discourse ultimately reveals is how shallowly most people read novels. They focus on whether or not characters are likable or relatable, how believable the plot is, etc. Its not simply enough to read classic literature; you need to think deeply about it
