I spent my first day of Ramadan in the Rohingya camps in Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh, with Mr Bilal Erdogan. We saw some incredible work being done at a field hospital, school, and vocational training centre, all thanks to TIKA and Diyanet Vakfi. But, we can do more for our Rohingya brothers and sisters. Let's come together and make a difference!

Here in Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, the entire refugee population depends on humanitarian aid. Until the conflict and the systematic persecution they have fled ends, we must support them. The international community has an obligation to invest - now - in aid for people who have suffered so much.

Tokens for UN Secretary-General AntΓ³nio Guterres' iftar party are being distributed. Head Majhees across the camps are selectively handing out tokens to educated youth, imams, and others to take part in the event in Camp 20. This has sparked widespread speculation about who is being included or excluded and whether armed groups, given their recent prominence in public events, will also be invited. Women were initially invited, but their numbers have since been significantly reduced, leaving only token representation. Reports suggest that Bangladesh army organisers claimed women would become weak due to Ramadan, leading to this decision. Hopefully, this is just a rumour. Additionally, mobile phones and cameras will not be permitted at the event. The tokens are signed by the camp-in-charge.

Elon Musk does not have the power to dismantle USAID. The idea that a billionaire can wake up one day and decide to end life-saving international aid programs is undemocratic and outright dangerous.

Bangladesh’s treatment of new arrivals betrays the principle of non-refoulement and basic humanity. doctorswithoutborders.ca/msf… Rohingya fleeing Myanmar's violence arrive in Bangladesh only to face neglect and misery. Overcrowded camps force them to share dwindling rations and live without shelter, water, or sanitation. Children under five are malnourished, families fear exploitation, and women and girls face heightened risks of abuse. MSF reports refugees are too terrified to seek help. They live in constant fear of being forcibly returned to the atrocities they fled in Myanmar. War-wounded and traumatised, their plight is compounded by delayed registration and a humanitarian response starved of resources.
