A 25% reduction in housing permitting time leads to a 33% increase in the rate of housing production in LA. Elasticity greater than 1! If we assume the elasticity is similar for infrastructure and energy, then NEPA, etc. has wrecked the US economy. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.…

A "progressive" form Minnesota is a folksy middle aged white guy who just thinks kids should have free school lunch whereas a progressive from California, Oregon, or Washington is a demented freak who thinks shoplifting should be legalized

What percentage of workers do this at an actual workplace? I'm gonna guess pretty low

I’ve yet to meet one person who works from home that actually works from 9am to 5pm with a 30 minute lunch in-between with the occasional bathroom break.

Easy way to marry a woman between the ages of 28 and 32 is to be between 28 and 32

Missing context here is that women between 28-32 generally have their lives together and men 28-32 often do not. That subset of age of women generally prefer several years older, and that's ok

Hey Elon I misclicked and accidentally voted no (I had Cheetos on my fingers so it slipped). Could you please make sure to change my vote to yes when you do the final count? Thank you!

This, of course, is perfectly sensible. Rice is cheap and easy to import. Chips are not. If only California were so sensible they would stop subsidizing almond and cotton production with cheap water and let the water be used for more valuable urban uses and manufacturing.

This is insane. The Taiwanese government is paying farmers to NOT grow rice because they need the water for AI chip manufacturing instead. We're prioritizing AI over feeding people during a drought.

San Francisco housing prices started rising quickly in the early 1980s, shortly after the city enacted a landmark citywide downzoning in 1978.

This all starts to change in the early 1970s. I won't bore you with my low-info takes on what changed in 1971. But where housing affordability is concerned, one thing obviously changed: it became a lot harder to build housing in our wealthiest cities. wtfhappenedin1971.com/

Europeans will never get a fucking pass for being absolute savages. Two world wars, colonialism, and currently far more racist than the United States. You grew up in Europe but forgot about Yugoslavia??

In the Harvard Grant Study, the world’s longest running and most comprehensive psychological study, the five most mature, healthy defense mechanisms associated with higher life satisfaction were: 1. Altruism: focusing on others’ wellbeing 2. Humor: making light of difficult or stressful events or experiences 3. Sublimation: turning anger or frustration into productive energy 4. Anticipation: maintaining a realistic view of the future and its difficulties 5. Suppression: consciously suppressing unproductive and distressing thoughts wilsonquarterly.com/quarterl…

Really simple actually. They view America as being taken over by groups they don't identify with, and so they increasingly don't identify with America itself
Good post from @Noahpinion but I still wonder *why* so many people on the right have taken this kind of sharp anti-American / anti-western turn. noahpinion.blog/p/hey-tech-f…

"Didn't rely on slavery..." sir, have you read A SINGLE THING about Mao and the Great Leap Forward?????
Replying to @BenjaminNorton
This is what happens when your brain is rotted by drinking your own Western imperial chauvinist kool aid. China has implemented the biggest, most successful socialist project in history. Its economy is already bigger than the US', and growing much faster (and unlike the US, China didn't rely on slavery and imperialism to develop its economy). In much of the Global South, China's economic development is seen as a model to emulate. Practically no one is looking at the failing "democratic" capitalism in the US - with skyrocketing homelessness, brutality, and inequality - as a model. But these Western supremacists are stuck in a bubble, and they think the 87% of the global population outside of the "West" loves them and wants to be just like them. They don't. At all.
