Why do people with mental (or physical) health vulnerabilities need call essential firm after firm and govt departments too to declare it, needing repeat the same painful, possibly embarrassing explanations. Today @MMHPI is calling for a 'tell us once' system. Here's my quote on why..... "The government has a Tell Us Once system for when someone dies, yet we lack the same for those who are alive and struggling. That makes no sense. We need a single simple system that can work across essential services like banks, energy and water firms, and government systems too – whichever people choose. “Right now, a vulnerable person in the middle of a mental (or physical) health crisis may have to call firm after firm, and government agencies on top, repeating the same painful, possibly embarrassing or triggering explanation again and again. In a digital age where data sharing is simple, that feels almost cruel. “Of course safeguards and informed consent are essential, people must have control of their data. Pumpkins: Halloween is one night. Tonight. If you have to waste a food item (and I strongly suggest you don't), please put it out for one night, then safely dispose of it. Please DO NOT put it out for the wildlife. Once you've handled it, cut it, left it out in the open, unrefrigerated, it will not be hygienic or safe for anyone to eat. Pumpkins are a low-acid vegetable, so once they are cut and left at room temperature, pathogens will rapidly grow on the flesh, producing mould spores. Our precious wildlife do not have any magical properties that protect them against food poisoning. Additionally, this time of year there are baby hedgehogs around, born too late to find natural food, desperate to eat anything to stop the pain of starvation. Pumpkin has a laxative affect so it would be particularly cruel to leave it out for starving wildlife to eat in desperation, causing them to lose precious fluids that may make the difference between life and death. So no matter what you read elsewhere, please DO NOT put your discarded decoration out for the birds or any other wildlife. Please DO NOT compost them either, as a composting pumpkin can produce highly toxic tremorgenic mycotoxins, which will be deadly if the compost bin is not properly secured and is accessible to wildlife (or pets). Many hedgehogs, seeking the warmth of a compost bin, die this way every year. Once you've used the pumpkin as decoration it's waste, fit only for the bin. Please help get this vital message spread far and wide, to save precious lives and prevent suffering.

I find it utterly bizarre how people are willing to support the super rich who hide their money in offshore accounts, than support disabled. We are a scapegoat for them. Tax avoidance costs the UK tens of billions. Disabled people are not the issue. Stop looking the wrong way!

The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after. And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before. If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from Father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early, you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too. Saw this & thought I'd repost.
