Brazilian #photographer Ronaldo Aguiar has left X, but you can find his work on Bluesky and Instagram... On one of his visits, we'd spent a foggy day wandering Harlem to take pictures. This video set the stage for the end of my stay in #Manhattan. My wife and I we're headed #home to #Ithaca. We'd started a family, and wanted to live where we could afford a house. By the spring of '17 the new president had taken office. So many were unnerved... #Monologging always gave a reason to warm and say hello then try to understand. Meanwhile, I still had a dream of fixing up the novel I'd written in college. The one about the #fire and the #music, two brothers and old #friends ...

I remember the first time that @MarkScabash6 & I had a call to discuss #poetry & collaboration on #Monologging. That was always the dream at the heart of the "Local-global" concept. Using new communications technologies, I could encourage leaps of faith among contributors worldwide that would make long distance relationships feel genuine and committed.
Through the years, Mark has been a great mentor, challenging me to explore philosophical, political & religious perspectives that were either not on my radar or that I had been quick to judge at the onset. His kind words, annual poem, and steadfast belief in the novelty of Monologging's mission has helped immeasurably to establish a sense of balance throughout the magazine. Likewise, I have Mark to thank for encouraging my experimentation with #Haiku & #Tanka forms.
Though Mark contributed many gems, looking back, it's only proper to highlight the beginning of this collaboration first. I was delighted to pair Mark with #Irish #Artist @DMullerFineArt who illustrated his brilliant #poem, "Magnolia Annex," for our Summer '19 issue.
