Some of the most influential people in entertainment never appear on screen... but their impact can be felt for generations.
Floyd Norman, one of Disney's first Black animators, will receive an honorary Oscar this November... recognizing a groundbreaking career that helped shape some of the most beloved films in animation history.
After joining Disney in 1956, Norman helped bring classics like "Sleeping Beauty", "The Jungle Book", and "Toy Story 2" to life through a creative vision that continues to influence audiences decades later. While many may not know his name, countless people around the world have experienced the magic from his work.
Long overdue, this honor recognizes a pioneer who helped expand what was possible for Black creatives in animation and entertainment. Floyd's journey is a reminder that some of culture's greatest contributions are made behind the scenes... and that those contributions deserve to be celebrated.
