PSA:
@Google is quietly killing 3rd party appointment booking services like
@Calendly in favor of their own newly launched competitor...
And of course this "spam prevention" measure doesn't apply to meetings booked through their own new competitive software, which naturally doesn't support any video meetings options but Meet... 🙄
What changed: Google recently auto-opt-in'd most user's to default to NOT show 3rd party invites in calendar UNLESS the booker has previously emailed the host (defeats the point of booking software) or they explicitly accept the invite in email (massively more friction).
It's causing major issues for us
@GrainHQ where users book time and assume all is well, but accidentally miss meetings b/c it never appeared on their calendar. It still shows as normal on the booking owner's end...
These moves are so blatantly anti-competitive and anti-consumer... all under the guise of "spam prevention"... which they could easily manage for google accounts using 3rd party booking software.
Any chance
@FTC /
@TheJusticeDept gets involved to protect consumers?

After some digging - looks like Google might have auto-opted in people to this new setting that hides calendar invites from unknown senders
Supposedly to prevent calendar spam
But has now caused me to miss 2 meetings with no idea that they were scheduled
