I have a PhD. I'm a full Professor. I wrote a computer virus in the 1980s pre-Windows . I'm the Director of the AI Forward Initiative. I can do basic hardware repair and upgrades. And YET... In 2026, when I try to use Excel I'm like an ape smacking a log with a stick. Totally incompetent.

It's hard for me to explain to those outside #Uganda just how irritated the Ugandans are to be lumped in with DRC for the #Ebola epidemic. As of this writing, there have been hundreds of deaths and over 1000 cases in Congo, whereas Uganda has had only 9 cases -- three Congolese, four medical workers who treated them, one driver who drove them, and one other known contact. Only one person has died in Uganda, a Congolese. So when WHO and Al Jazeera talks about the Ebola epidemic in "Congo and Uganda," it's like saying because there are wildfires in California, you should cancel a trip to the Grand Canyon because some Californians lit a campfire there. Yes, it is possible it *could* spread and you have to be vigilant, but these two situations are nowhere near the same magnitude. As of this writing, the only Ugandan death has been the tourism industry.

Despite the tyranny of numbers that overwhelmed us, we declare that ours was not a numerical challenge but a moral challenge. We took up a fight everyone was cowering from and faced attacks from many quarters including from friends blinded by short term considerations. Many counseled me to throw in the towel fearing the outcome of the ballot. When the counting started, one MP told me that due to strict partisan voting I would be lucky to get ten votes. I put my seat on the line by telling him that if I got less than ten votes I would resign from Parliament. That aside, despite the opposition we faced, the fight was worthwhile. Thanks to the power of outrage fueled by many patriots, Parliament can breathe again. Our collective efforts brought a gush of fresh air in Parliament.

In December, I drove my assistant home after she had had a little too much to drink at our office party. Although nothing had happened, I decided not to mention it to wife, who being a suspicious person, could be very jealous. Later that night, my wife and I were driving home in the car when I spotted a single high-heeled shoe under her seat. When she wasn't looking, I picked up the shoe and tossed it out of the window. Later, as we got out of the car at home, my wife asked, "Honey, have you seen my other shoe?" The life of a husband is so complicated!

One of the telling things about our society at our functions is how we behave around food: 1. People loading more food on their plates than they can finish, and without feeling ashamed of the heaps on their plates 2. The fact that people have to be served, because they don’t know how to share limited resources 3. When given a chance for self service, people serving themselves without any regard to those behind them that might not get. Five pieces of chicken are left in the dish, and someone serves himself three of them (with 20 people behind him) 4. People eating more than they need, just because there is free food 5. People acting impatient as if they would die if they took 10 more minutes before their turn to serve (okulookalooka/ okululunkana) 6. Serving the second time (double) before others get anything, and pretending not to have eaten at all 7. Packing food to take home when some people present haven’t got 8. Catering service providers hiding food. While these habits might seem isolated and only related to food, they ALL vividly manifest themselves when we are in charge of any resources that have to be shared. Think about it. Our biggest problems as a country are around GREED, SELFISHNESS, DISHONESTY, and lack of a sense of SHAME

It's Rude to ask for a favor from someone you don't check on. And it's more rude to check on someone when you need a favor.

Let’s be careful not to assume this girl is suffering because she rides a bicycle. For many families, that is a normal and honest way to get to school. If anyone wants to help, let it be something sustainable, like improving what she already uses (a better bicycle, safety gear, or school support), not changing her lifestyle for a short time we cannot maintain.Real help should empower, not interrupt what is already working.
If anyone knows which school this is, we need to identify this girl. Even if we paid for a boda boda for a year. Maybe after that one year, the family will have found a solution or we could still renew her boda offer.

This is not just bad politics. It is bad manners! Only the head of the family has the final word on who can access which room in the home. He doesn’t need lectures from a recently adopted child! Above all, when you insult your father’s visitors you’ve insulted your father.
