In the past few days I've seen 29 Swift Parrots flying through my conservation property in North East Victoria and another 4 here at home in Melbourne. So thrilling...until it hits that I have just seen 6.6% of the remaining population. We need strong new #Naturelaws now!

Excited to learn more about Norfolk Island Moreporks from @FlossySperring who's just finished her PhD on the little beasts 🦉 Love the inclusion of an Auslan interpreter for these sessions too @AOC2023BRISBANE 👌

Ever wonder just how smart parrots can be? Our paper TODAY shows individual designs of sound tools regularly used by wild Palm Cockatoos. It took me 4 yrs to find all the rare, drumming 'Rockatoos' and 256 drum tools. Pics & story 👇 royalsocietypublishing.org/d… #PalmCockatooProject

Drumming behaviour by a Palm Cockatoo! Banging away with his homemade drumstick 😍. Being endangered, small population, wary of humans, and in a remote area, this image is the result of 8 weeks worth of hard work, so I hope you all like it loads! #PalmCockatooProject

10 animals that depend on eucalypts to celebrate #NED10 1. Greater Gliders (endangered) feed almost exclusively on Eucalyptus leaves and buds. They nest in big eucalypt hollows. #NationalEucalyptDay #LoveAGum

Mistletoebirds waggle post-poo to help the mistletoe seed in their poo to stick to the branch. Sticking mistletoe seeds to branches helps ensure the #Mistletoebird has food in the future once the seed germinates and produces the next crop of fruit. #WildOz #RememberTheWild #birds

This week we translocated kowaris to @AridRecovery. We are hoping the move to our safe haven will improve the chances of survival for this threatened species. It's hard not to fall in love with this face.

A joy to see the 100 species of trees, shrubs, forbs and grasses we planted doing so well. Can't wait to see the habitat layers forming in a few more years 😍
Our 2019 plantings are coming along beautifully! 🙌🌱🌳 #bior #frahnsfarm #conservation #biodiversity

"Making this film was a real journey. I remember the moment we finally captured footage of these amazing birds in daylight, after being up all night tracking them for three days in a row." - Chris McC, RTW MD #theplainswandererfilm, a thread #birdtwitter rememberthewild.org.au/plain…

What a cracker trip @CNZdenek! Best spot in the world with the best company 💯 Palm Cockatoos and Fawn-breasted Bowerbirds are a bonus 🙃
Throwback to 7 years ago. Here's Tom Hunt (@moth_nut) and I playing the waiting-game part of fieldwork on Cape York together. Fun times! Pic by C. Garai.

There were 180 Swift Parrots seen here in 2009. I would have loved to have shown them to the members of the NSW Upper House inquiry into native forest logging to whom I’m appearing as a witness for @BirdlifeOz but this Spotted Gum forest has had the life logged out of it.

Not to be outdone by the pelicans, the Red-necked #Avocets we have fitted tracking devices to have also packed their bags and departed the #Coorong following the rains in central Australia. #ProjectCoorong #RoamingMothUpdate

My last tweet was about me being covered in #pelican vomit and poo, so that seems a logical place to kick the update off. Through my work on #ProjectCoorong, I have now put tracking devices on 11 pelicans. #RoamingMothUpdate

What have those #pelicans been up to in the last two months? Very interesting things. Some are breeding doing multiple trips to and from the North Pelican Island breeding colony. #ProjectCoorong #RoamingMothUpdate

My entry for the #TSBakeOff this year: and Eastern Regent Parrot. Found along the Murray in SA and Vic, they're threatened and only 1500 pairs remain. The base is a gluten-free chai spice cake with plumage courtesy of dried pineapple, kiwifruit, pawpaw, prunes, and blueberries.

Can you believe it has already been four weeks since the last day of the 2021 Frahns Farm Planting Festival? We've had more than 45mm of rainfall this month, which is great news for our 2021 seedlings! 💚🌿🌱 #conservation #bior #southaustralia #treeplanting #habitatrestoration
