NASA Wallops Island update - launch alert, a Rocket Lab AIC mystery, and dredging progress.
New LNM (45816) out for a rocket launch from Wallops Flight Facility, VA. The hazard corridor stretches well into the Atlantic past Bermuda toward 61-62ยฐW, with hazard areas up to 182 nautical miles.
Primary: June 26, 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM EDT
Backups: June 27 - July 2, same daily window
No confirmed mission ID yet. Only a single hazard zone is listed, which makes us think this may not be Rocket Lab - possibly an unannounced sounding rocket. There is already a separate LNM for the RockSat launch (June 24-25), so this looks like a different mission.
Separately: all four large tower structures staged outside the Rocket Lab AIC, between Building 0 and the Neutron 01 building, are now gone. They were arranged in two rows of two, each with a big electric motor and gearbox assembly. Still on site June 9, last photographed June 2. Checked our usual vantage point toward the pads and did not see them there either. No idea if they went inside, down to the island, or off-site.
On the Sloop Gut dredging front, good progress continues. Today we watched trucks running in and out of Wallops Island, hauling dredge material to the VSA upland farmland for dewatering. The piles out there are adding up nicely.
Busy month at Wallops. Will update as we learn more.
