I've been on Twitter since December 2007. Since then, I have gained many fascinating insights here, met interesting people and shared a lot about my life and my journalistic work in Southeast Asia.

Unfortunately, the discourse on Twitter has deteriorated massively since the takeover by @ElonMusk. I no longer feel comfortable here and I have decided to stop posting on X.
Perhaps things will change in the future. But for now: bye-bye and a happy new year to everyone!

Berlin-based @deliveryherocom is considering selling its #Foodpanda business in Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines to competitor #Grab, according to @wiwo. If the deal goes through, it would probably be bad news for consumers. wiwo.de/unternehmen/dienstle…
This news from @BloombergAsia that Aung San Suu Kyi has been released may turn out to be wishful thinking.
According to Myanmar media, a pardon by the junta refers to only five convictions. However, the deposed de facto leader still has several additional sentences to serve.
BREAKING: #Thailand's National Assembly has rejected election winner @Pita_MFP as the country's next prime minister. An absolute majority of more than 375 MPs and senators voted against him or abstained.
JUST IN: Thailand's government confirms a meeting between Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained in #Myanmar since the military coup: "She was in good health both physically and mentally." The meeting took place on Sunday.
Next week, Thailand's National Assembly will convene to elect a new Prime Minister. Today, progressive frontrunner @Pita_MFP and his supporters are gathering in front of a shopping mall in #Bangkok to show strength. Despite the rain, many showed up.
.@Pita_MFP and his Move Forward party won the General Election and, together with his coalition partners, has a majority in the lower house. But this is not enough in Thailand to become Prime Minister: A big chunk of military-appointed Senators has to agree as well. A big hurdle.
How can so many people be so stupid to believe that this is an actual @FT headline?
How can @elonmusk allow idiotic hoaxes to flood his $44bn toy and destroy the last bit of value this platform has?

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will attend next week's #Asean Foreign Ministers meeting in #Indonesia with the aim of increasing pressure on #Myanmar's military "to compel the regime to end its violence and return to a path of democracy".

Needless to say, I'm more than happy for any alternative to the mess @ElonMusk is making of Twitter, which used to be indispensable to me.
So it's no surprise that I'm also on Threads. For now, I'm posting content about Bangkok over there. Have a look:

I am having my lunch today at this beautiful Café next to Phaya Thai Palace in #Bangkok. It's history goes back to the reign of King Rama VI. It was reopened in 2003 and almost looks like a typical Viennese coffeehouse.
