“To accept one’s past—one’s history—is not the same thing as drowning in it. It is learning how to use it.” The great writeer James Baldwin would have turned 100 tomorrow. What do you suppose would he make of the world today? #JamesBaldwin newyorker.com/magazine/1962/…

"Janine’s goal was to disrupt the usual 'southernly nice' conversations about giving in the South & encourage philanthropy to focus on persistent inequities, esp. racial inequities, & grant makers’ role in addressing them," writes Susan Taylor Batten about our friend Janine Lee.
Opinion: Janine Lee was a champion of equitable grant making in the South. A consummate philanthropic leader, she leaves behind a legacy of healing divisions and facilitating difficult conversations in a deeply complex region, writes @SBatten of @ABFE. bit.ly/3TJQkf4

Today is All Women's #EqualPayDay. In most Southern states, the wage gap is worse than the national average. And for women of color, it's worse yet. Equal Pay Day falls later for women who are: AAPI: April 3 Black: July 9 Moms: August 7 Latina: October 3 Indigenous: November 21
Louisiana women are paid just 66 cents for every dollar made by men, the third-highest gender pay gap in the nation. Our state leaders need to ensure that Louisiana women receive equal pay for equal work! nationalpartnership.org/wp-c… #EqualPayDay #lalege #lagov
