You probably saw videos of a nighttime raid in Chicago. Agents rappelling from a helicopter, bursting down doors, questioning brown-skinned immigrants. We investigated -- and found little evidence to support the government’s claims about Tren de Aragua. propublica.org/article/chica…

ProPublica’s board and senior management hide when asked to engage with bargaining. The board meets today, but they won’t meet with us. We will make our voices unavoidable until they agree to a fair contract, so today we welcomed folks to our office with flyers about our fight.

We’re in our third year of fighting for a fair contract. After we held a one-day walkout in April, ProPublica’s Board Chairman Paul Sagan said management has “the Board’s full and undivided support.” But is that true? We think board members should speak for themselves… 🧵

1/ Last fall, as we were interviewing immigrants detained during a dramatic immigration raid at an apartment complex in Chicago, we kept hearing about a Nigerian man whose leg was mauled by a police dog. 🧵:

10/ The nightmares stopped after he was released in March. But he worries the injuries might be permanent. He finds it difficult to stand for a long time, and sometimes pain shoots to his foot. He can’t run or kick a soccer ball like he used to. He can’t afford to see a doctor.

"Nearly five years." Investigative journalism takes years and years. The investment is immense, and always worth it, and, in the era of "hot takes" and ephemeral "content," rigorously reported journalistic work is needed more than ever. We must keep supporting investigative journalism. From @mannyNYT, lead reporter of the blockbuster piece on Cesar Chavez ⤵️

Today is my first day at ProPublica as an investigative reporter covering higher education. I'm planning to focus especially on everything that has changed under the Trump administration. Email me tips, ideas, or just introduce yourself at molly.hensley-clancy@propublica.org
