ALT Whoever is supporting ballot initiative #S-01-2022 has signature collectors out who don’t know what it is. It’s the Nevada Community-Based School Districts Initiative and it would allow municipalities to opt-out of county-based school districts to form community-based school districts. This isn’t about Reno/WCSD. This is about Las Vegas/CCSD. It’s about finding a way to break up the 5th largest school district in the nation. It’s about the fact that CCSD is comprised of 4 cities and 10 census-designated places. In some way, it’s about Superintendent Jara. It’s about the fact that teachers find out new responsibilities and policies on the news. It’s about the fact that retaliation is so prominent down there, there is a Twitter account just to call it out. Jara is claiming that breaking up the district will cost taxpayers so much. Except that last November, he gave 16 district officials pay increases ranging from 5% to 28%.
