I made up a game called "All my Exes". Stu get a card, they use #distributiveproperty to multiply, and then they run to the equivalent card that reveals where all their exes live ❎ (inspired by George Strait and Drake) #hrcemath #mtbos #mathgames

One note: some seemed to find the risk-taking involved (potentially doing something wrong in front of peers) to be too much for them to participate without support. Risk-taking remains one of our biggest focus areas. #mtbos #risktaking #mathematics #middleschoolmath

It took a couple rounds for them to "get it", but then they were in. Makes me think about @fawnpnguyen 's criteria for a good task: it was a game I personally enjoy. And another thing I value: students that often disengage got into it. #mtbos

Students got into an argument over ( 8) - (-4) during our warm up, so we had a math debate over it and tried to convince our peers (with only a few tears 😬). Then we finished the class with an @openmiddle challenge so see math can be fun #mtbos #iteachmath #hrcemath

Prepping for the Remembrance Day ceremony next week. Our goal is to ensure our ceremony is inclusive and multicultural, representing the many languages spoken by staff and students at our school. One of our grade 9 students will be reading In Flanders Fields in Bengali!
