Teacher retention: if you want to keep the best teachers, treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals. This is more important now than ever!
What most people donβt realize about teachers:
Theyβre often the most consistent non-family adult in a childβs lifeβ
and sometimes, the most consistent adult, period.
Kids donβt just want consistency. They need it.
And teachers quietly show upβevery single day.
The little girl in that picture is all grown up & heading back to Lewis Central! After 29 years with the CBCSD, I am thrilled to announce that I will be the new K-3 TAG teacher for LC. Thankful for all the experiences Iβve had in the first part of my career! #notdoneyet#gotitans
How does @CoachSchroder always know exactly what we need for professional development? Always leveraging our knowledge in ways that can directly impact the work in our buildings with teachers and students! #mathcoaches
Collaborating with this team started my day with excitement. Feeling that passion for the art of teaching is contagious and these educators helped me find that feeling again. Iβm not sure they will know how much my heart is impacted! @albeckman122@ShelbiKlahn@WendyLutz2
I struggled with this a lot as a school leader. The culture of the building is shaped by what we PROMOTEβ¦but also what we PERMIT. The people who work the hardest get frustrated when behaviors of those that donβt are tolerated. #LeadFromWhereYouAre
We have the best library clerk! Mrs. Martin (aka Mrs. Marshmallow) is always helping students and teachers find the perfect books! We also have a fantastic public library in Council Bluffs. Let's see how many library books you can read this month!
Adults in schools,
We must choose our discomfort:
Stay uncomfortable with low achievement & blame kids
OR
Embrace discomfort by changing our practices.
Change is hard, but it leads to growth, while staying the same keeps us (& them) stuck.
Choose productive discomfort.
College View is so fortunate to have a School Counselor that always puts students and families first! Please take the time to say thank you to Mrs. Degner this week.
Meeting with this team this morning truly made my day! These 4th grade teachers are so dedicated and committed to every student! They are relentless problem solvers and put joy in their jobs even when some days are bleak. Thank you! @KlahnShelbi@albeckman122
Agency for teachers- choosing PD sessions to improve our own learning! Growing our own knowledge to be better for our students! Great way to return after break! #cbcsd#ThisIsUs
Reminder from T @MrsHunter_OAK: You can't get to the deep learning without going through the discomfort of mistake-making! #GrowthMindset
ALT Alt: An anchor chart titled "The Learning Pit" shows a drawing of a pit, with the sides labeled "Try to solve" and "Deep learning and understanding." The bottom is labeled "Making mistakes," "Deep thinking," "Collaboration" and "Explore all options." Thought bubbles are included throughout: "I'm confused," "What if ...," etc.
When parents only ask about grades and goals, kids infer that achievement comes first.
To signal that we value their well-being and character, we should also ask about happiness and kindness:
-What made you feel joyful? Sad or worried?
-Who did you help? Who helped you?
