LATEST: Mary the Tasmanian devil has been found after 14 days missing in Australia. She escaped from a wildlife park on the Gold Coast, in eastern Australia, after reportedly leaping out of her enclosure. For two weeks, wildlife teams searched with sniffer dogs, thermal cameras, CCTV footage and reported sightings. Mary was finally found in bushland less than 2 km from the park. She was in rough condition when rescuers reached her, but vets have now stabilised her.

He loves his spacious natural habitat and his friendships with some of the Puerto Rican girls that live with him now. Thank you for being the reason Apolo and so many others are safe, happy, and home. We are all forever grateful for your support. #TheWildAnimalSanctuary #wildanimalsanctuary #colorado #sanctuary #RescuedLion

Ruby, a young red-necked wallaby, recently came into the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital after a heartbreaking start to life. 💔 Sadly, Ruby’s mum was hit by a car. Ruby remained in her mother’s pouch for some time before she was discovered and brought into care. By the time she arrived at the hospital, she had sustained abdominal injuries and required urgent treatment. 🥹 Like many orphaned joeys, Ruby faced a few challenges on her road to recovery. It took some time for her to adjust to formula feeding, but with plenty of dedicated care from our wonderful team, she has slowly gained strength and confidence. 🥳🎉 Today, Ruby is making steady progress and continues to receive the specialised care she needs. 💙💚

THE RIGHT PROFILE. Saham's blossomed into a great looking lion since arriving at ADIWS two years ago. Does he have a best side? We think they are all perfect. Saham and Shujaa were victims of the trophy pet trade, abandoned in Kuwait City. Now they enjoy almost 4 acres at ADIWS.

Three of our ex-orphans stopped by Ithumba this week, bringing along their expanding families to meet their human family. Can you believe each of these proud mama's were once tiny babies, rescued when they lost their own families? 1. Tumaren with her firstborn Tembo and newborn Tuck, joined by ex-orphan Esampu at the water trough. 2. Mutara with her firstborn son Mambo by the wallow. 3. Galana with her younger daughter Gala. Are you an adopter of any of our ex-orphan mothers?

Lemeki used to be found sprinting around the Kaluku Nursery chasing after the guinea fowl. Now she takes life at a more sedate pace, lounging atop the dust pile. She was rescued from the Mara River in March 2018, a few days old, after being swept downstream in flash floods. Eight years on, she is a picture of peace and contentment at our Voi Reintegration Unit, mid-soil bath. Lemeki is one of 327 orphaned elephants we've given a second chance at life. Meet Baby Bear 🐾💛 Also known as Big Bear, or simply BB if you prefer! Bear was rescued in Somaliland after falling victim to the illegal wildlife trade, a threat that continues to impact countless cheetah cubs every year. When he arrived at CCF, Bear was just three weeks old and needed round-the-clock care. Because he was so young, his first weeks in our care were challenging, but thanks to the dedication of our team, he has made incredible progress. Now, after more than a month in our care, Bear is six weeks old, healthy, full of energy, and growing stronger every day. 🐆✨ If you'd like to support cubs like Bear, please consider making a donation or adopting a cheetah. Every contribution helps us provide life-saving care to cheetahs in need. cheetah.org/uk/donate/ @CCFCheetah

Do elephants carry grudges? Generally, we find the orphans choose forgiveness over revenge. Mbegu here, for instance, was severely harmed by humans – speared and stoned before her rescue. But she chose forgiveness, embracing her Keeper family wholeheartedly. The orphans can be cautious about the things that hurt them, though. Calves rescued from wells can be wary of water at first. Orphans who lost their families to gunfire flinch at loud sounds. And after another orphan, Ndoria, endured a tail-biting spate from the herd, many gave her a wide berth. Time, patience, and love heal most wounds – even Ndoria was eventually embraced by the group too.

We know of 93 calves born in the wild to our ex-orphans. How? Because they chose to bring their newborns home. Some make the pilgrimage from the wild within hours of giving birth. They walk back to the Reintegration Unit they grew up at, find the Keepers who raised them, and introduce the baby. Others might return a few weeks or months after. Each time, our Keepers are like proud grandparents, over the moon with happiness. Yatta has done it four times. Melia twice. This is the moment Tumaren came back with her newest baby. Meet our wildborn family, all alive today because we chose to rescue their orphan mothers: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…
