thestranger.com/city/the-lad… But why move the Lady? Not only is she here surrounded by leafy trees, which become gloriously gorgeous in autumn, but she has her back to the insane carbon-liberating structure called 1-5 and faces, and toasts (though without frothy fountain water),

I recommend staying away from Link Line 1 tonight. It's down at Mount Baker Station. @SoundTransit ain't ready for the big League.

Frederick Wiseman changed the way we see the world.

From the classrooms of High School to the corridors of Hospital, he turned his camera on the institutions that shape us — inviting us to look closer, sit longer & confront truth with empathy.

May his memory be a blessing.

Today we mourn the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a giant of the civil rights movement who never stopped demanding that America live up to its promise.

He marched, he ran, he organized and he preached justice without apology.

May we honor him not just in words, but in struggle.

So apparently white Americans in Minneapolis are putting Mexican flags on their cars so ICE agents waste time pulling them over. They call it ICE fishing. 🤣😂

My good friend, @mudede, thank you for this lovely review of “What Is Intelligence?” in @TheStranger. Always enjoy reading your reflections grounded in personal history—from your early years in the U.S. to your Sundays with Sagan in Zimbabwe.

Transit Soles thestranger.com/transit/2025… To celebrate @SoundTransit big day, which, hopefully, will soon be followed by the completion of a key segment of Line 2 (Sea/Bel), I decided to share with you my secret obsession: Shoes I have spotted on light rail trains over the years.

Robinson Devor and Charles @Mudede have a stunning new doc called SUBURBAN FURY, about Sara Jane Moore: the activist-turned-FBI informant who tried to kill Gerald Ford in September 1975. It's playing at Alamo this week; i interviewed them for @ScreenSlate screenslate.com/articles/tri…

Good question. The 'hotpot' cyberpunk flavor of Chongqing marks a shift in modernity, from - cyberpunk Generation X as Vancouver BC's world-historical cultural exports (like @mudede once described it) to today's more pervasive embrace of sf themes. thestranger.com/slog/2021/05…

Chongqing is one of the most unique cities I’ve been to in China. Its "cyberpunk" reputation doesn’t do it justice. There’s this beautiful tension between its old history (century-old stairs, wartime tunnels) and the full speed of the future (neon lights, incredible skyscrapers), with the streets actually smelling like hotpot – such a special mix (or is that, in fact, what cyberpunk actually really is?!😅)

A pedophile sends his personal police to cause mayhem and misery at a church, during a time of worship. USA today.
I think it’s safe to say the United States is not a “Christian nation”… In Chicago, ICE/Border Patrol targeted faith leaders outside the Broadview ICE facility. And in Charlotte, NC, they raided a church. Witnesses say 15 to 20 congregants were doing yard work at a church off Albemarle Road in east Charlotte when masked immigration agents stormed the property. According to the pastor, the agents asked no questions, showed no identification, detained one man, and tried to grab others… which should alarm everyone, especially as the FBI has warned about a rise in ICE/Border Patrol impersonators. This is yet another reminder that these raids were never about catching the “worst of the worst.” It was never about safety. It was about targeting vulnerable people… even in places of worship, and schools.
