Had always wondered how a bigoted king like Tipu was enthusiastic about the symbolism of the French Revolution (such as establishing a Jacobin Club; planting of a Liberty Tree at Srirangapatnam, etc.). Turns out it was actually French troops stationed there who did that, not him.

During the interview for the Indian Civil Services in pre-1947 era, an Indian named RN Noronha was asked “Tell me, Mr Noronha, apart from the salary, what attracted you to the I.C.S.?" He replied with another question “Apart from the salary, is there any attraction?”
The man went on to top the list of Indian candidates.
