Today’s the 19th anniversary of my first stroke. In March 2001, the doctors said I’d never be able to read anything longer than a few sentences. I’m currently writing my second book, have over 20 essays and poems published in various publications and have read over 3000 books

Talking to my younger cousins who refer to @Cristiano as solely "Ronaldo". They have no concept of @Ronaldo because he was before their time, despite my attempts to educate. Adulthood is a trip!

Life in a severely disabled volatile body. Was supposed to die twice. Dependent on daily medication to survive (Shout-out my late father for health insurance). Physical therapy to manage my health. Community to caretake during flares.

When I was leaving the Black Student org stopped doing their yearly "brown paper bag test" event, more crossover between the different orgs and collaborations, which was unheard of in my time. The irony in Detroit of all places. I was in Ann Arbor, small world!
We also had differences within our groups. One known for social events, the other more community-focused. The current generation hopefully has a more welcoming and unified approach. My Canadian-ness was the discriminating factor with a particular Black student org in Detroit 🤷🏽‍♀️!

We had a Black Student Club and an African Student Club. At orientation , I went to the Black Student Club, and they said "Go to the Africans, you're not welcome here 🤣" The African Student Club was more welcoming of everyone (Caribbean/Asian/Black-American etc.).
Right?! We had Black/Caribbean student clubs, but no formal groups with faculty. That would have been amazing.

2 Gifts that have brought me solace during my most recent flare. 1. The magnificent @the__0nly gifted me this spectacular illustration. 2. A poem by the late, great @andreagibson . Sent from Laura via Tina. Shout-out my fellow Grief Astronomers.

P.S. I've been out of commission in a severe flare up of my disabilities for the past ten months. Unable to read, process or type text. Largely bedbound these past ten months. If you've reached out to me, I will eventually reply.
