I want to talk about it. What do they do?
Trump: "Transgender mutilization, where your child leaves your house and they take you child from you. In six states. They take the child and do what they want to do. What they do is, I don't even want to talk about it."

Yes, he's the first trillionaire - but historically there have been people who owned a greater percentage of the world's wealth - John D. Rockefeller - Caesar Augustus - Mansa Musa

Humans are incredibly good at two things: 1. Long-distance running 2. Hitting a ball with a stick These are incredibly difficult tasks, no other animal is anywhere close to our level of ability here
Humans are not good at chess. Fair enough. Which activity are humans optimal at?πŸ€”

Sometimes people excitedly tell me their favorite stock just went up. My canned response for this is "what is the P/E?" They usually don't like this response

1. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a cult and everyone in it should leave 2. The Department of War should not have reclassified it as non-Christian 3. It is likely that this reclassification was accidental rather than on purpose

The First Amendment protects the right to say things that may shock or offend. Why would we treat that freedom lightly when so many places don’t have it at all?

The line "Say hello, Harvey" from Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a brilliant joke that almost no-one gets

The narrator of Moby-Dick is named Ishmael. There ARE books where the narrator lies. For example, Humbert Humbert lies about Juanita Dark's name. Moby-Dick is not one of those books. We're supposed to call him Ishmael because that's his name
So, I took multiple classes on Moby-Dick as an undergrad & one of the first things you learn is that Ishmael is NOT his name; it’s an allusion to Ishmael from the Book of Genesis (the exiled son of Abraham, of whom it was prophesied, β€œHis hand shall be against every man, and every man’s hand against him”). The narrator imagines himself an outcast, rejected by society & forced to seek his destiny on the high seas. His self-understanding is beautifully transformed during the scene in which he shares a bed with the cannibal harpooner Queequeg, who becomes his bosom friend. As his heart softens, he writes, β€œI felt a melting in me. No more my splintered heart and maddened hand were turned against the wolfish world.” Love has come to redeem him. He is Ishmael no more.

I hear a rocket blew up. This should not be a surprise. Rockets are very, very good at blowing up. It is not necessarily a sign of incompetence
