I don’t normally post on X these days (I haven’t opened it in weeks) - but this is so #Brexit!
Politicians who don’t understand trade making simplistic statements & then the real world catching up with them.
Brexit has been a slow puncture, #TrumpTariffs are rather more rapid!
Modern supply chains don't look like trade theory 101!
They involve constant border crossings, each now hit by tariffs.
Tariffs raise prices, but the more important thing they do is disrupt supply relationships.

5 years ago Britain left the EU. Red tape would be scrapped. Immigration slashed. NHS spending boom. International trade burgeon. The economy would thrive. Europe would be as open to us as ever. All not only lies but the opposite happened. Yet there has been no accountability.
Exclusive:
Senior politicians in Labour, the Tories and Reform have privately urged Donald Trump’s allies to rethink his relationship with Elon Musk after the weekend
They’re all questioning if the Trump-Musk alliance will last following the Nigel Farage blow-up. Rare unity on this between the three parties
A source well-connected on both sides of the Atlantic says: ‘I can’t see Elon’s relationship with President Trump lasting very long after this fiasco. It’s definitely a warning of things to come. This episode has definitely set off alarm bells with people close to Trump.’
Trump supporters in Britain are warning Musk’s posts risk damaging the president-elect’s reputation abroad
Another UK politician close to Trump-world says they’re worried Musk has got above his station and now poses a threat to the president-elect
But a Trump spokesman insists he is standing by Musk despite the row with Farage. ‘Elon Musk and President Trump are great friends and brilliant leaders working together to Make America Great Again.’

PFAS manufacturers have been allowed to get away with such blatant deception & distortion for so long, it seems incredible they're finally getting called out . Get a breakdown of how firms hid risks from PFAS, in this podcast by @sbartlett4podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcas…
🚨BREAKING: My Office is Suing Manufacturers of Toxic PFAS “Forever Chemicals” for Falsely Advertising Household Products as Safe for Families

continued to advertise them as safe for household use around families and children.
Texas is taking action to penalize these companies and hold them accountable for deceiving Texans

And turns out they know this, as one of the same authors had this piece last January. Only now have they decided that it as something to do with Labour.
The Telegraph backs Brexit which cuts the City off from Europe. And then and inevitably when the London markets shrivel away it doesn't blame the Brexiteers it blames the Labour party
As the lower Severn floodplains continue to slowly drain billions of gallons of water into the Estuary a week after the rain fell it’s important to recognise their importance in terms of regulating flows.
Floodplain management is crucial to our response to increasing flooding
It’s the warmest 24th November on record in the UK
Date records aren’t particularly noteworthy but interesting this one was set in the early morning and follows the coldest spell of November weather for a decade.
New bird population figures show unbearable decline, especially among farm & woodland species.
So much is riding on the new Environmental Improvement Plan. It must make nature-friendly farming profitable, make polluters pay dearly & reform planning to guarantee space for nature.
Party walls are wild - CIBSE literally says "assume adjoining property is unheated, even when it is known that a heating system is installed". Like... your neighbour's house is definitely heated?
4. The key issue for the fossil fuel companies is that none of their assets should become inaccessible. Their reserves are massively greater than climate targets can withstand. If they are burnt, we’re toast. Whether they can use them or not is an entirely political decision.
Following the hearing of EVP Commissioner-designate @Teresaribera, one thing is clear: The EU’s competitiveness is intrinsically linked to sustainability. This isn’t just about saving the planet—it’s about securing our economic future.

Hackney claim their design is better for pedestrians.
In reality the Council's design removes a pedestrian crossing on Amhurst Rd. The VisionZero design retains it. Removing a crossing on a 3-laned busy road is less safe & lower utility for pedestrians. Keep the pedestrian Xing!
