If there's one parable I could teach engineers who aspire to become better at their craft it's this:
Two lumberjacks, one young and one old, are working in a forest...
⬇️
After a few days of this, the young lumberjack finally confesses to the older one:
"Every day I try to cut more wood than you, and every day you seem to cut as much as me. And you disappear for a few hours. What are you doing while you are gone?"
⬇️
The older lumberjack looks at him, smiles and responds "I'm sharpening my axe."
➡️ Often, investing time into your tools and work process pays greater dividends than trying to brute force a solution.
We have some big news: iNaturalist is now an independent 501c3 non-profit organization!
Your iNat experience won’t change-we’re still focused on supporting and building a free platform for sharing and identifying what you find in nature.

If great software is an act of empathy [1], writing a programming language is the ultimate act.
There should be more languages. They don't need to be broadly scoped or even Turing complete. They could just be a nicer way to interact with your thermostat.

TIL duckdb can return an ast for a query as a select statement duckdb.org/docs/extensions/j…
Incredible use cases here for editor integration and query optimization
Hat tip to @josh_wills for pointing this out at #duckdbcon
The fact that @googlenest has all of your video but only lets you export what they deem a “clip” is bizarre.
Solution is to screen record on your phone or computer.
