Everyone has been so impressed by Japanese fans cleaning up after themselves but most probably missed this beautiful moment at the post-game (🇳🇱2 - 2🇯🇵) press conference. Toward the end after reporters were done asking questions, 🇯🇵head coach, Hajime Moriyasu, asked to speak one more time. 🗣️ “May I speak?” He turned to the Dutch reporters in the room. 🗣️ “I think there are many Dutch reporters here as well, so I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the people of the Netherlands once again.” Moriyasu explained that when he became part of the Japan national team, Japanese football still had no professional league. 🗣️ “I was trained by a Dutch coach named Hans Ooft. It wasn’t just me. Japanese coaches in general were greatly influenced by him, which has led to the development of Japanese soccer today.” He also mentioned another Dutch figure who shaped his career. 🗣️ “The legendary Dutch coach Wim Jansen served as the manager for J.League’s Sanfrecce Hiroshima and also as a coach for Urawa Reds, contributing to Japanese soccer.” 🗣️ “It’s not just those two. Many other coaches and players have contributed to raising the level of Japanese soccer, so I want to express my thanks. Thank you very much.” What a masterclass in graciousness and gratitude. Imagine after a high-stakes match, instead of basking in glory and bravado (well-deserved in my opinion), the coach took to the microphone to... thank his opponents publicly and sincerely. Japan's cultural operating system prizes harmony (wa), respect for precedent, and gratitude as a form of strength, not weakness. Japanese sports culture reflects its broader society where you'll see athletes bow to their opponents, thanking referees, and even crediting rivals or mentors. Think of sumo wrestlers, Olympic athletes, or even bullet-train staff apologizing for a 30-second delay. The Japanese have this concept of On (恩) - it is the sense of indebtedness to those who came before or helped you. It's what you'd expect from a culture that truly prizes continuity. Moriyasu was acknowledging a real debt to Dutch coaches like Hans Ooft (who coached Japan in the early 90s and helped professionalize the game) and Wim Jansen. Japanese football openly credits foreign influences - Dutch "Total Football" philosophy, German organization, Brazilian flair - while building something distinctly their own. Few nations do this with such little ego. Japan is pure class

Mauricio Pochettino said that ‘American sports reward losers’ when asked about the style of play in top European nations vs. in the U.S. 😯🇺🇸 QUESTION: “We know how England, France, Spain play… Players from countries with a strong tradition have a recognizable style. What is the style of the US team? What kind of football do the Americans want to play?” ANSWER: “Their culture is playful. They want to play. We told them, “Guys, playing soccer is one thing, competing is another.” They’re two completely different sports. They grow up in a culture of playing. Why? If you start in MLS and you haven’t won a game in three months and you’re at the bottom, what’s the consequence if there’s no promotion or relegation, no international competition? American sports reward losers! But soccer is different: if you reward those who don’t win… If you don’t have goals, you don’t fight. If I lose, what happens? Nothing. They just fire the coach. Also, the American player is disciplined. But with a sense of complacency that isn’t good in soccer. It took us a year and a half to change that mentality.” [EL PAIS]

🚨Van Dijk on Japan Fans Cleaning the Stadium and Endo Retirement: 🗣️"A reporter caught up with me right on the touchline after the game and asked, 'Virgil, a brilliant personal milestone with your first World Cup goal, but a tough pill to swallow conceding late. How do you summarize the match, and what are your thoughts seeing the Japanese fans staying back to clean the stadium?' I took a second, looked up at the stands, and told him, 'Look, it’s obviously a bit frustrating from our side because we held the lead twice, and connecting with Ryan's cross to get my header into the back of the net felt amazing. But you have to give massive credit to Japan—they are a fantastic, technically gifted side that never knows when they are beaten But honestly, if you want to talk about what makes football beautiful, just look around the stadium right now. Their team just fought back to secure a massive point at the death, and instead of just wild partying, their supporters are actively walking through the rows with blue trash bags, collecting litter and leaving the stadium completely spotless. It is an incredible display of humility and pure respect that transcends sports. They show the exact same class on the terraces that their players show on the pitch, and the entire world can learn a lot from them. I also want to take a moment to speak about my #LFC teammate, Wataru Endo. I went over to hug him at full time because I know this tournament marks the final chapter of his incredible international career. He is a warrior, a fantastic leader for the Samurai Blue, and an absolute credit to his country. I told him on the pitch how immensely proud he should be of everything he has built for Japanese football. I wish Wataru nothing but the absolute best of luck in his international retirement—he deserves a legendary send-off, and we are waiting to welcome him back to Merseyside with open arms.'

Estados Unidos está preparado para cualquier tipo de evento. No importa qué tan grande sea. No tienen que paralizar un país entero, no tienen que iniciar obras 15 años antes, y pueden albergar todo tipo de certamen, incluso al mismo tiempo. 🇺🇸

🇯🇵😂 The most Japanese celebration ever After Japan’s 2–2 draw against the Netherlands, fans rushed onto Tokyo’s famous Shibuya Crossing to celebrate. For exactly 40 seconds. Why? Because the pedestrian light was green. As soon as it turned red, everyone stopped celebrating and obediently moved back to the sidewalks. Even in the middle of a spontaneous football celebration, the Japanese still refused to break traffic rules.
