15 years ago the Supreme Court decided corporations are people under the First Amendment. Today, billionaire political spending is up 160-fold since that ruling. We must overturn Citizens United. Every day, it corrupts our politics and erodes our democracy.

As Trump tries to dismantle the Department of Education, remember that his plan to cut the corporate tax rate to 15% would give the 100 largest corporations a tax cut larger than the entire department's K-12 budget. Really think about how twisted this all is.

Abolishing the Dept. of Education would be devastating to our nation's students — and our teachers. MAGA Republicans have been waging a war on public school teachers for years. They want public schools to fail so they can pour the money into private, for-profit schools.

We are living in a dangerous and unprecedented moment in American history. I’m getting a lot of calls from people who are not only upset about what’s happening, but are wondering how we best go forward. Here are my thoughts:

TRUMP: "You said hazardous waste - what is that? You have to define it. Are we gonna go through a whole series of questioning on defining it?" Here's a report to read. latimes.com/california/story…

Aren't those properties dangerous? The melted metals and asbestos make for a toxic soup. Shouldn't there be some rules to protect property owners?
🚨 BREAKING: LA Mayor Karen Bass and Trump with a very tense exchange now... Bass is losing her cool over insistence from community members and Trump who say that clearly, people aren't being allowed back on their property soon enough. TRUMP: People are willing to clean up themselves. BASS: They can. TRUMP: That guy right there that's talking - he'll be there tonight, throwing everything away. He doesn't want to wait. You have emergency powers just like I do. You need to exercise them. BASS: I DID exercise them. TRUMP: You can do everything within 24 hours. BASS: Individuals can clear out their property. ATTENDEES: When can we go back to our home? BASS: We think... within a week. TRUMP: That is a long time. BASS: We want people to be safe. TRUMP: You know what? They're not safe now. A week is a long time. I see hundreds of people not allowed to go on their lots. It won't burn anymore... it's done. They want to clean up. They are just standing there, saying they need a permit. Everyone says 18 months.

West Virginia is shuttering its public schools. Seven schools will close in the next few years due to declining enrollment, joining the 53 that closed in the past five years and 25 more public schools are proposed to close. pv4ps.org/west-virginia-is-c… #Privatization

Some things should be above politics. Public education and health care are two such things. Decisions should be made by those with expertise in the field. I should not be telling a medical doctor how to perform gall bladder surgery any more than a politician should be telling me how to teach my literacy methods class or how a classroom teacher should teach reading. But we live in a world that doesn’t always work the way it should.

Minnesota was just ranked the second best state for children. This ranking reflects our work to support middle class families, invest in education and child care, and build a brighter future for our kids.

A new national report finds that more than one in four charter schools fail in their first five years. And by year 15, nearly half have closed. The numbers are even more stark in Michigan charter schools. cbsnews.com/detroit/news/rep…
