Pulled my @SatisfactoryAF golden mug off the shelf to celebrate 1.0 day and… there was a spider in it. Extremely on-brand.

Sometimes initial page load speed doesn’t matter. Example: An internal SPA app that an employee uses to do their job. They load it once, and then use it all day. In this scenario, waiting a few seconds for the initial load is just fine.

3D capture is dope for media & entertainment, but the utilitarian applications might be even more impactful - literally x-ray vision making the unseen seen. With tools like Pix4D RTK GPS (cm level accuracy) you can capture critical infrastructure, and overlay it at real-world locations in the future - allowing you to 'see' through concrete for future maintenance and construction.

what pains me about the bad parts of a lot of apps (slow, spinners, gets into weird states) is it's likely not progressively fixable need to get foundational architecture right for a top 1% experience

And that is the sound of every tech company adding multi-cloud disaster recovery as a priority 0.
Google Cloud accidentally deleted a company's entire cloud environment (Unisuper, an investment company, which manages $80B). The company had backups in another region, but GCP deleted those too. Luckily, they had yet more backups on another provider. theguardian.com/australia-ne…

A bad developer keeps adding complexity until it finally works. A good developer keeps reducing complexity until it can't be any simpler.

Been using Angular signals for like a week and HOLY CRAP did @RyanCarniato get it right with Solid separating state and setState(). The number of times I’ve forgotten to invoke a signal is absurd.

When I was a Junior Developer, I desperately wanted to become Senior. I imagined they’re abstraction wizards who write elegant code all day long. Little did I know that an actual job of a Senior Engineer is educating others that mocks are bad, telling people to stay on the subject during countless meetings, and restarting CI ten times per day to find out why tests are flaky 😮‍💨

It’s crazy to me people still don’t do grocery delivery in 2024. It’s like $5. Minimum wage is a higher dollar per hour.
