So much to this. And they know we care when they know us. There is no substitute for trust and relationship building, and oftentimes that is a direct result of vulnerability. Thanks @trev_mackenzie. Just read one of your books provided by a colleague very recently.
Recently in class I noticed a student was more engaged than normal.
I asked him what resonated w/ him so much. I was curious what I had done.
He said something that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.
“When my teachers care I care.”
And that my friends, is everything.
I really cannot say enough about reflection, demonstration, and celebration. There is no perfect way to do this, but sharing and celebrating OKRs with your team or in the classroom is a great way to remember how much amazing stuff WE are all doing. Keep up the great work.
AI bringing Tupac to the classroom. Thanks @cho_liz and @mcelroy23 for showing me historical figures. What a cool tool to vary the way students might get to know a poet/artist/author. There’s beauty even in the hardships, everyone. Have a great one.
So much #KISpride to take 14 amazing humans to connect with other young changemakers in the first of what I hope can become regular semiannual conferences across the peninsula focused on service and leadership. @inspirecitizen2 let’s go!
New article on The Purpose and Process of Reflection . . . please share and let me know your thoughts! Practical suggestions for clarifying what reflection is not, and what it is! Please share! bit.ly/ReflectionCBK
Praise like this is hard to beat. So proud of the G4s @KIS_SeoulCampus for being risk-takers and sharing their passion for the right to education. TY to the high school student activists @kispride & @natesamuelson10 for joining us virtually to play our awareness board games!
#KISpride in my incredible colleagues for their work coming to fruition this weekend. Not enough space in this tweet to express the respect and the impact of this weekend. Congrats @cho_liz, @mcelroy23, @DonischRobert and @ronniecharrier. Wish I were at all of it!
#KISpride when your service learning based class aimed at developing global citizens is asked who wants to be on a DEIJ panel, and all seven sign up. 🥹@inspirecitizen2, great start after an amazing weekend of connections. Can’t wait for November.
Super excited to share my experience building a course that is rooted in the service learning cycle. Also excited to try and replicate the modeling style of presenting that I so enjoyed from @cbkaye back in Nagoya.
It's taken a few years, but applications for our 1st PhoenixTown just went out to our students, so I'm just re-watching the video from our trip at my last school and getting all emotional. Can't wait for a whole new group of students to experience this! youtube.com/watch?v=J_lY5ONF…
Students first diagrammed a global citizen, then settled on the most relevant characteristic from their representation. This will guide our work and define the type of GC we want to be. This year is going to be so impactful on so many levels :) #KISpride#UNSDGs@TheGlobalGoals
