St. Louis needs investment and improvement, but that’s true for many Midwest cities. What we lack most is optimism, creativity and the courage to dream big. We need more boosters to dream boldly, even if they seem far-fetched. firstalert4.com/2026/05/20/f… via @nathanvickers @KMOV

What do you think? Does STL have an unusual number of local coffee shops and specialty roasters? Local patrons seem to think so. We're exploring local coffee culture tonight at 6:30 on .@KMOV What's your favorite coffee spot?

Worth a read. Anecdotally, I have heard this a lot from people (often online) as we work on stories for Forward. I'm not sure the criticism locally is always fair. By contrast, people who live downtown love it, and people visiting from out of town seem to enjoy visiting.
Easily the biggest takeaway of part one of the editorial series on downtown is that St. Louisans want nothing to do with it. Editorial: Downtown St. Louis is in bad shape. We can't afford to do nothing about it. stltoday.com/opinion/editori… via @stltoday

By 2030, it's entirely possible for Downtown KC to gain... - A new music venue, hotel, and apartments at 800 Grand. - New apartments, hotel and offices space across from there Kauffman Center. - The Roy Blunt Luminary Park. - A Royals Stadium at Washington Square Park.
Encore on Broadway, the large, mixed-use development proposal in the West Crossroads, just west of the Kauffman Center, has had its full vision revealed. thekcpulse.com/2026/04/15/en…

From vacant to vision, Dutchtown residents are turning one of St. Louis’ biggest challenges into real change. With 500 empty properties and 150 targeted for redevelopment, progress is slow but it’s powered by neighbors determined to rebuild their community. @nathanvickers @KMOV

In the fall, STL published a site for submitting policy ideas. The window is now closed and the only idea to clear the threshold is a (probably) joke pitch to replace prayers at BOA meetings w/ Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back in Town." Orig. story here: firstalert4.com/2025/09/17/n…

I know there’s no city more dunked on internally and externally than StL, but I was downtown last week for a meeting, lunch, and dinner. Crowded at night w/a Blues game. Full spots on Wash Ave. Lunch hour pedestrian traffic. It doesn’t have NYC pedestrian activity, but few do.
"There's never anybody walking around in downtown St. Louis. Remember the old neutron bomb that wouldn't knock down buildings but just would eliminate all the people? It's like one of those hit St. Louis" – Gary Cohen

Thanks @TomGerend for talking with me about the @kcstreetcar's role in improving connections through KC's neighborhoods.
STL has some of the best sports fans around, but on this this episode of Forward we looked at the growing desire to think beyond sports, even beyond downtown. How can the city showcase neighborhoods like the Delmar Loop and attract visitors? @KMOV firstalert4.com/2026/03/25/f…

Being a city in a county through re-entry isn't all bad, if and only if the people want it. We're in four counties after all, including Jackson County where our pop'n exceeds StL City. The long-term goal has to be regional growth for all in a vital region for Missouri's future.
Sam Page is proposing consolidation of city/county services and STL city potentially rejoining the boundaries of the county. We’ll have coverage throughout the day on .@KMOV We recently covered the history of “The Great Divorce” and its modern implications firstalert4.com/2026/02/18/f…

“Faced with the Council’s budget cuts and forced to reduce services, one path forward is to find more ways to consolidate key city and county services. The city could even re-enter the county as a municipality. That actually has a lot of political support."
Page said in his presser that he isn't touting a specific plan for consolidation, but stressed the urgency of bringing services together in an effort to fix both City and County budget issues. Watch his remarks here: firstalert4.com/2026/03/12/s…
