A Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus) chick repeatedly begs for food while the attending parent appears to retrieve prey from the water.
At one point, the food seems to be reclaimed and consumed by the adult instead. Was the item dropped by the chick, intentionally withheld, or could the interaction have been part of a broader learning process related to foraging or movement?

When multiple ducklings try to gather beneath the mother at once, crowding can create surprisingly complex interactions. One duckling appeared temporarily pinned while continuing to push forward.
Is this simply persistence in reaching warmth and protection, or part of a stronger instinct to stay physically connected to the brood?

Eastern Spot-billed Duck (Anas zonorhyncha).
Several male ducks gathered near a female with ducklings, showing what appeared to be mild competitive behavior. The ducklings, meanwhile, remained focused on foraging and seemed largely unaffected by the interactions around them.
A small reminder that different age groups can be occupied by very different priorities in the same moment.

Natureβs underwater drama is intense. π₯Ά While the 3-day-old Gg squad was busy foraging for bugs near the brush, a large catfish slowly emerged from the shadows, locking its eyes on the ducklings. Having witnessed catfish hunt ducklings before, the tension was realβbut Mother Gg clocked the movement instantly and launched a direct underwater charge to drive him off! A masterclass in "tough love" parenting. π¦π While navigating the edge of a weir, one adventurous 9-day-old duckling pushed his luck too far and got swept right over the drop. Instead of panicking or diving down immediately, Mother Gg held her ground at the top and patiently waited. She trusted him to figure it outβand he did! Finding a safe route, he scaled the wall and pulled off a massive sprint right back into her arms. π₯Ήπ‘οΈβ¨

Never underestimate a 6-day-old fluffball! πͺ This morning, the Gg family faced a brutal combination of rushing rapids and slick boulders. While most of the squad found their rhythm, the last little duckling just couldn't get a grip and kept slipping back. But giving up wasn't an option. Watching him try over and over until he finally conquered the peak was pure inspiration! 10/10 for persistence! π¦πβ¨

The ultimate parenting dilemma. π Mother Ag faced a total nightmare scenario when her 1-day-old squad got split across a rushing weir. Some babies got swept down, others were too terrified to jump, and one overachiever kept trying to climb back UP! Watching Mom constantly switch directions, pacing up and down the ledge to keep eyes on everyone, was pure stress. 10/10 for maternal dedication! π¦ππ

Motherhood in the wild is zero chill. π° While the Gg family was on a peaceful walk, a large snake suddenly lunged at one of the 3-day-old ducklings! The baby pulled off a matrix-level dodge into the water, and within a millisecond, Mother Gg launched herself straight at the snake to counterattack! Pure warrior mom energy. π‘οΈπβ¨

The internal headcount is always running. π§ π¦ Mother Ag led her 1-day-old squad out of the bushes but immediately stopped, looking incredibly confused and pacing back and forth. I counted the babies: only 9. She knew exactly who was missing! After a tense wait, the 10th tiny fluffball finally emerged. The way Mom ran over to give a gentle "Where were you?!" lecture before swimming off was 10/10 relatable parenting. πβ€οΈ

Even when the kids are nearly full-grown, Mom is still Mom. π¦ΈββοΈπ¦ At 55 days old, these 21 ducklings are almost as big as their mother, but when a massive Grey Heron landed nearby, Mother Bd didn't take any chances. She sounded the alarm and gathered all 21 of them into a massive formation. Seeing 22 nearly adult ducks band together was such a power move, even the heron looked stunned! π¦
