Perimenopause can start in your 30s.
Hormone changes, shorter cycles, mood swings, worse PMS, sleep issues?
You’re not too young and you’re not imagining it.
And yes, you can still be fertile.
MYTH: Infertility is mostly a woman’s problem.
FACT: It’s 50/50. Male factors contribute to half of infertility cases. If you’re not getting pregnant, both partners need a check-up.
Fertility Myth: As long as you’re still getting periods, your fertility is fine.
Truth: You can have regular cycles and still have a low ovarian reserve. Fertility declines before your period stops so don’t wait for a problem to learn about your body.

After ovulation the egg only lives for 24 hours. Sperm can live in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days. This makes the fertile window the 5 days before and then the day of ovulation.

Did you know that the rate of twins increases as you get older?
This is bc you have fewer eggs and your ovaries are more stubborn so your brain has to send out a stronger signal of FSH to get an egg to grow. This can result in 2 eggs maturing instead of just one.

Top 5 Fertility Myths
As a fertility doctor, I hear these myths all the time and they can create confusion, shame, and unnecessary delay in getting the care you need.
Let’s talk about the top 5 things I hear way too often:
4. “You just need to relax and it will happen.”
False.
I hate this one. Stress is real and reducing stress is important to hormonal health, but many causes of infertility need more than stress reduction to conceive. You deserve real support and solutions for your fertility.
5. “IVF always works.”
False.
I wish it did, but IVF success depends on many factors, especially age and egg quality. IVF is the most powerful tool we have, but success is not guaranteed.

Patients I've diagnosed recently who have been told by other providers that nothing was wrong, but really it was:
- endometriosis
- adenomyosis
- low ovarian reserve
- premature menopause
- hashimotos
- PCOS
We must start listening to women.
We do not keep "extrauterine children" in a "cryogenic nursery."
An embryo can be frozen with vitrification at -320 F, stored in liquid nitrogen, and later thawed with continued cellular growth. A child cannot survive this.
2. Support doctors for fertility PAC. We started @DFFPAC when Roe was overturned as we know IVF would be on the line. Donate. Money talks.

3. If you are in ALABAMA
- write your your representatives
- advocacy day for IVF Wednesday Feb 28th at the statehouse in Montgomery

Nationwide embryo transport companies have indicated they will not transport embryos outside of AL due to uncertainty about liability and criminal charges in the wake of the AL Supreme Court ruling.
Patients trying to have families are suffering.
A quick primer on IVF to explain the Alabama Supreme Court decision:
In IVF we take eggs and sperm and put them together in a lab. This involves taking hormone shots to mature the eggs in the body, removing the eggs, and fertilizing the eggs with sperm in the lab.

The accidental destruction of embryos is terrible, and by no way am I saying the people involved don't have rights to sue or deserve a settlement.
But the precedent of calling an embryo a child is dangerous to the practice of IVF.
