I’m sharing the story of @Andrewlockhead from @getStay22
March 2020. Stay22 is at $110K MRR. Term sheets signed. The round is almost closed.
Then travel and events shut down overnight. Revenue dropped 90% in weeks.
Investors who had signed stopped picking up the phone. One told Andrew to sue him if he wanted, the money wasn't coming. Another sent a check with a note not to deposit it. No funds in the account.
He cut the team from 24 to 8 and started over.

My two cents on the new AI strategy - fwiw
Pros
• Sovereign compute fund public supercomputer = relief on GPU costs
• $500M Growth Fund to help scale national champions
• Adoption push creates early customers & talent pipeline
Cons
• Heavy on usage/adoption, lighter on bold builder incentives
• New certification privacy layers add compliance weight
• No fast fixes on founder economics, energy, or early stage capital
Good step forward, but we still need to make Canada the best place to build world-class AI companies - that starts at the early stage
