And in the second part of the first day we had a talk by Ben Larson and Thibaut Brunet on behavioural complexity of ciliates and the evolution of neural properties of cells in eukaryotes.
We started our What is a Neuron workshop yesterday with a talk by Fred Keijzer, who spoke about the role of concepts in neuroscience and skin brain theory.
We are running more online courses in June - two modules of Bonsai and a webinar on how to approach working with a new model system: calendar and registration on our webpage!
Join the summer course on open science run @cam_openlab - learn how to adopt transparent, reproducible, and collaborative research practices during conceptual discussions and practical workshops!
Open Lab goes Meta!
We are thrilled to announce that our schools and workshops will soon switch from the real to the virtual - we enter the Metaverse!
Create your avatar, put your headset on and learn everything you need to know about tools & ideas in neuroscience. Stay tuned!
We are happy to announce the first workshop in our new series: Back to Basics!
The goal of this series is to take a fresh look at the basic assumptions held in our field.
In the first workshop, we will ask the most fundamental question: What is a neuron?

We are happy to announce the first workshop in our new series: Back to Basics!
The goal of this series is to take a fresh look at the basic assumptions held in our field.
In the first workshop, we will ask the most fundamental question: What is a neuron?
What properties should a cell have to be defined as such? Can we clearly define a biological neuron?
How many times did neurons evolve? What defines a neuron during development?
What is a neuron in an artificial network?
We will try to answer those questions during our workshop! Itwill be held in the spirit of our Schools of Ideas—with an informal atmosphere, open exchange of thoughts and perspectives, in-depth talks, and plenty of space for discussion. More info here - nenckiopenlab.org/neuron/
We’re launching Open Lab Online – a series of accessible online workshops and seminars! Help us tailor our programs to your needs by completing our survey. Let us know what skills and knowledge you’d like to develop: forms.gle/aQTU4EkvynEfYNis8
Our next workshop is here! Learn how to design behavioural setups that answer your research questions efficiently. We’ll take you from theory to practice—covering experiment planning, equipment building, and data acquisition.
