Stunned. Rich was not only a brilliant journalist, he was one of the very few in that newsroom circa 2005 when I got there who had a clue what I and my team did. I still have a copy somewhere of the “Meislin Memo” in which he basically mapped out the NYT’s digital figure.
Dang. Decades ago, he laid the groundwork for the Pulitzer-winning Covid-19 data efforts of our tech teams.
