As a people, we need to stop looking up to thugs & celebrities as role models. Maybe we need better leaders. Maybe it’s the stop snitching culture. All I know is that we must stop playing the victim & excusing criminal behavior

As Orange County's Congresswoman, I condemn yesterday's decision—made during #PrideMonth, no less—by the Board of Supervisors to ban the Pride flag from being flown on county property. This month and every month, we should be lifting up our LGBTQ neighbors, not excluding them.
It is shocking and appalling that we do not have a code of ethics for our Supreme Court. This blatant corruption cannot continue. Congress must serve as a check on the Court by passing legislation mandating an ethics code.
Harlan Crow paid the tuition of Justice Clarence Thomas's grandnephew the entire time he was a student at a private boarding school, a former administrator tells ProPublica. Thomas didn't report the payments on his annual financial disclosures.

Paid leave and affordable child care make it possible for the best and brightest to stay in the workforce and succeed at the highest levels. Our global competitors invest in family policy because it's smart economic policy.

The Spiral of Theodorus is formed by right-triangles with a height of 1 unit.
What’s mind blowing is that the rings formed each have the same area. 🤯
#mtbos#iteachmath
ALT A gif showing the construction of the Spiral of Theodorus. The spiral is formed by a series of right-triangles.
The pattern begins a right-triangle on a coordinate plane with a height and base of 1 unit. Its vertex is on the origin and one of its shorter side lengths runs down the y-axis to (0,-1). The triangle’s third vertex is at (-1,-1).
Right-triangles are then formed with each new triangle’s base the hypotenuse of the previous triangle. Each triangle has a vertex at the origin and a height of 1 unit. The 1-unit side lengths form the outer edge of the spiral as it forms in a clockwise manner around the origin.
Points appear at the 90° vertex of each triangle and circles of that radius form with the centre of each circle being the origin.
The triangles fade out and the circles fill in, showing several increasingly narrower coloured rings around the origin, each with the same area.
"The science of math says that explicit instruction is the most effective way to teach."
This is true if "explicit" means teachers are explicit about what STUDENTS know, and work with that knowledge. Much less true if we mean teachers being explicit about what TEACHERS know.
Year 7s have been enjoying Genius Hour in their Maths lessons exploring topics of their choice and collaborating on presentations to the class @StJuliansMaths#StJuliansY7#TheJoyOfLearning
PLEASE SHARE/RETWEET: Why is teaching so difficult? What reasons surface to the top for you/colleagues?
I ask bc:
1. It is
2. Hoping we can help each other w targeted & real solutions
3. None of us is alone in our struggles, but fewer of these & more rewards would be nice! 🙏
"No man needs to impersonate women to sexually assault women. Trans people do not put cisgender women at risk. It's wage inequality, women's care burden, and sexist male aggressors that put us at risk."
— Irene Montero, Spain's Minister of Equality
Teaching asks so much of the people who do it. It isn't easy, then, for many teachers to realize the limits of its impact (ie. eliminating social inequalities) compared to other social forces.
One thing Grandin got right: advanced algebra is currently a requirement for too many educational and career goals that have nothing to do with advanced algebra.
Wrong, though: the idea that algebra has no use for visuals.
