#China: At today’s Trump-Xi summit, CPJ urges both leaders to put press freedom high on the agenda by having meaningful discussions about the release of jailed journalists, including Hong Kong publisher Jimmy Lai, who is 78, and veteran journalist Dong Yuyu, 64.
Both men have serious health concerns and their cases demand urgent humanitarian attention. Press freedom and the imprisonment of journalists must not be sidelined during U.S.-China talks. Journalism is not a crime.
