At what point in the PhD journey do you start calling professors by their first name? I’m so uncomfortable with this but so many peers do it and professors seem okay with it. @AcademicChatter @Momademia

We presented on our pilot study at @SPR this week! Learned a lot and received great feedback. I appreciate how SPR makes the poster sessions a social event that doesn’t compete with other sessions. Thank you to @sycarahfisher for providing funding for this trip! @HDFSatUGA

The soon to be Dr. @larenbmorton and I did a panel this morning for @HDFSatUGA Professional Development class. Our advice to students - you have WAY more skills than you realize! There are endless options in addition to academia. Be creative when exploring opportunities!

The one conference I look forward to every year is @SREBDocSch! I leave feeling refreshed yet determined. It’s such an honor to be a part of this legacy.

I took a stats class 1 semester that was so difficult, I gave up. @KalseaJo convinced me to try again. I took her stats class and she was so patient, I slowly regained confidence. Academia can be callous. Navigating it as a mom is hard, encouragement is refreshing. @Momademia

I have already received my grade, so there are no ulterior motives behind this. Great professors deserve recognition (and tenure)!

What may seem like an overwhelming challenge to some, might be exactly where you’ve been setup to succeed. Don’t let others’ beliefs about themselves allow you to question your own capabilities. You are well-prepared.

Today was the 1st time in grad school I missed class the day of a scheduled presentation due to a sick child. I was worried & emailed my professor. My email was met w/compassion empathy. We rescheduled and I returned to caring for my son. Female academics are vital! @Momademia

My PhD advisor has a very successful academic career and grown children. During our last meeting, she said you will never regret spending more time with your kids. Just thought I’d share her wisdom. It’s a reminder choosing the right advisor for *you* is so important. @Momademia

Earlier this year, I was awarded a 3-year fully funded fellowship from @SREBDocSch. I didn’t realize the magnitude of the award until the conference. They showcased the BEST informative sessions and endless networking opportunities. So grateful for SREB and @doc_abraham!

I *love* the mathematical breakdown. When I get here, I’ll use this practical and strategic approach. I’m a mom of 4 and privileged to have a supportive husband who works hard to provide while I pursue my PhD. Life is hard for all of us in different ways, find what works for you

I wish I had tried Research Rabbit sooner! I’m a visual person and struggled with synthesizing literature. I need to *see* connections to fully grasp concepts. If any small detail is missing, my brain does not like that. If you’re a visual person, try @RsrchRabbit!

I’ve realized self-doubt is part of the process. Whenever I question myself during this PhD journey, there are moments that remind me why I’m here. I think about the life and opportunities my kids will have once this is all done @Momademia

I didn't do it until after I walked. I'm 1st gen & even when I didn't respect the person (I usually did) I respected the title. My students call me Dr. I worked hard believe that every time someone refers to me as Dr so & so, my father who didn't live 2 see this, smiles w pride

Today is the 9 year anniversary of my dad’s passing. He never went to college but his success in the restaurant business provided the opportunity for me to go to college. Getting my PhD will be the biggest ā€œthank youā€ I can give my dad. @Momademia

I applied for this doctoral fellowship back in March and literally had to fight back tears to write my personal statement. I prayed my words would touch the hearts of the readers. I’m thankful for my recommenders and the support of my husband and kids! @Momademia

Finished year 1 of my PhD program @HDFSatUGA!! It’s been a challenge but I quickly learned to ask questions and seek support from other students. I’m so thankful for my husband, kids, and incredible major professor @DrMOCaughy for keeping me going during the tough moments.

After an entire semester using Mplus, I’d like to publicly apologize to R studio for all my complaints. I’m sorry. You’re aren’t that bad after all 😬
