I entered the UK with no school certificate but an immigration stamp... More than 20 years ago, I arrived in the UK as a teenager with no family support, not much formal education, and only $100. I started studying English and then A-levels at Colleges. When I asked a tutor to help me with Cambridge University interview, he said: "You are an Afghan refugee, not white, and not privately educated to go to Cambridge." A few years later... Studying at Cambridge and Harvard, I achieved my dream of becoming an NHS doctor and founder of a global humanitarian non-profit Teleheal, and also an innovative mental health service Arian Wellbeing to help everyone in need including hard to reach populations. It's a lifetime of hardships and rejections that have taught me most in life. Many young people's dreams have been ended by their school grades today. My message to them or anyone else is - don't let grades or other people's opinions define who you are. Always believe in yourself and your dreams. Please consider sharing this message with anyone who might need to hear this today.

Have to shout out @AiredaleNHSFT and @2011prem for providing support and opportunity to make this happen. @davidcrampsey is a true supporter of the #SASworkforce, their development and parity being key for retention.

As a member of the public I am v concerned about informed consent. I had a wrist operation. I assumed my anaesthetist was a qualified doctor not an AA. I assumed the doctors who operated were fully qualified doctors too. Am I going to have to check every member of the team now?

I describe it to medical students by saying ‘Would you rather have a boring or exciting transatlantic flight?’ A boring one means that your pilot has planned, calculated risk, foreseen issues and quietly managed pending disasters without your even knowing.

"Straightforward" is a retrospective diagnosis, in most of medicine.
No, there is no such thing as a straightforward intubation in ICU

Worth sticking this here Who should an ACCP be intubating? Makes me feel uneasy if I’m honest. Not necessarily the tube as such, more the physiology, disease process and pharmacology Is there such thing as a straightforward critical care intubation

🧵For avoidance of doubt…2 criminal cases involving non-accidental injury. The term ‘member of Royal College of Physicians’ was used to introduce them to Court. The CPS only apparently realising that #physicianassociate was not a Dr when pointed out to them #RCPEGM
This could not be more serious… Baroness Finlay in House of Lords last night ….are the Courts aware who is giving evidence as an expert? #RCPEGM March 13th

There is one theme that I am 100% FED UP with and makes ZERO sense: 🔹We are to accept that scope of practice for PAs is individual 🔹At the same time for doctors it’s a defined path of progression paved with blood, sweat, tears & debt
