"Over the last year, DEP has further trained its focus on improving and protecting our drinking water and the health of our waterways. Through historic investments expected to exceed $850 million by the close of the fiscal year, regulatory modernization, and enforcement initiatives, DEP has improved water quality and infrastructure, helping to ensure that communities are better served by reliably safe drinking water and can enjoy cleaner waterways." - Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette

💧 This week is Drinking Water Week, but do you know where your water comes from? Maybe you have a municipal water supply which draws from a surface water reservoir, or maybe you have a private well that taps into a confined aquifer. Regardless, we all need to use this water responsibly, and make sure there’s enough to go around for generations to come. 🔗 Learn more about why "Our Water’s Worth It" at dep.nj.gov/ourwatersworthit/ and learn more about how the Department plans for water supply needs at dep.nj.gov/water-supply-plan… #DrinkingWaterWeek #OurWatersWorthIt #NewJersey

📣 The NJ Brownfield Development Area (BDA) Application deadline has been extended to July 31, 2024! @NJITTAB remains a dedicated resource for free review and critiques of your applications. Let us know how we can help your community along its brownfields journey!
📣 The Brownfield Development Area Application deadline has been extended to July 31, 2024! Under the Brownfields Development Area approach, Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment (CSRR) works with selected communities affected by multiple brownfields to design and implement remediation and reuse plans for these properties simultaneously. The BDA approach enables remediation and reuse to occur in a coordinated fashion. In this innovative process, we invite the various stakeholders, including owners of contaminated properties, potentially responsible parties, developers, community groups, technical experts and residents to participate in this cleanup and revitalization approach. 🔗 Visit dep.nj.gov/srp/brownfields/b… to learn more and apply for the program.

It’s not just a theme. It’s a need. Take #PlanetvsPlastics beyond this #EarthWeek, folks. Remember, recycling was never first on that ♻️ list. It goes like this: 1. ⬇️ REDUCE intentionally 2. 🔄 REUSE purposefully 3. 🔂 RECYCLE knowledgeably
#DYK that the Single Use Plastic Reduction Law avoided 13.7 billion single-use plastic bags from our environment and waste stream? 🛍️ Don't forget your reusable bag when you go shopping! 🤝 Choose bagless delivery or pickup options where available.

#Brownfield redevelopment means cleaner, safer drinking water. From the big scale, green infrastructure, to individual rain barrels and rain gardens, there's lots of ways we can each make positive change in our community. Happy #WorldWaterDay!
🌎💧 On today’s World Water Day, we want you to know that here at DEP, we are doing a lot to ensure your water is swimmable, fishable, and drinkable, but we can’t do it alone. 🤝 Learn more about what DEP is doing, and how you can do your part at: dep.nj.gov/ourwatersworthit #WorldWaterDay #NJDEP @shawnlatur

Many contaminated, underutilized sites persist in NJ due to perceived risks, lack of capacity and knowledge, and disposition challenges. To address these concerns, a relatively new solution has emerged for NJ communities: land banking. njit.edu/njbrownfields/sites…
