Of the 52,247 people who have died from COVID-19 in Canada, I've linked 22,137 deaths to 2544 residential care facilities and 256 deaths to workplace COVID-19 infections. That's 2 new deaths and no new facilities added since April 2. docs.google.com/spreadsheets…

I think that the fact that five children being killed in a crash on the weekend making zero national news is a good sign of how fucked this country is becoming.

Just finished recording with @sandela. We talk about this, and how the greed that drives privatization (of services like garbage collection and towing) collides with systemic poverty and racism, turning Black youth into disposable soldiers. Out tomorrow. noraloreto.substack.com/p/wh…

This is a very big problem in Quebec --- this place was Ground Zero during March 2020 of covid deaths, with hundreds of people dying in long-term care because some facilities didn't even have oxygen. No one wants to land in these facilities so they choose suicide.
In one region of Quebec, 13 percent of deaths are now by assisted dying. A single doctor has carried out 662 deaths. "Even some supporters say that the province needs to take a hard look at what has made it the global leader after only one decade." nytimes.com/2026/06/15/world…

My take on all of this, from this morning, before the cops confirmed what had been anonymously leaked to various news outlets. noraloreto.substack.com/

Marc Pinizotto was killed by Nicolas Bennett, allegedly, while executing a warrant. He is accused of shooting a martial arts facility and an apartment. Nowhere has he been accused of the (questionable) claim of accepting money from Iran to shoot stuff. noraloreto.substack.com/p/wh…

I can now confirm that Israel formally requested access to the Iran MoU and was denied. A remarkable and highly unusual development between close allies on an issue of such critical national security importance.

This is a hell of story. Not just the shootings, the breadth of which is absolutely wild, but the social trends, the failure of our ever more highly paid police force, and the apparent ease with which one can hire somebody to shoot up a building. It's actually kind of astounding that more people aren't injured by gunfire in Toronto. It's almost as if the point is not to injure but something else.
Here is my latest -- who is paying young men in Toronto to shoot at buildings late at night? I go through what is known about recent arrests, and the shooting death of a Toronto cop. noraloreto.substack.com/p/wh…
