After 24 days of IDF’s onslaught on
#Gaza we can draw some disturbing comparisons to the invasion of
#Iraq in 2003. Iraq (pop. 27m) had no airforce but remained a militarised country; nonetheless their forces were vanquished in 21 days. The accompanying civilian carnage caused by the US/UK then tailed off until the attacks on Falluja in 2004.
In
#Gaza (pop. 2.3m), Hamas—a vastly smaller force—is unvanquished after 24 days. The IDF’s civilian death toll is even higher than US/UK’s over the same time period, and shows no signs of tailing off. And when expressed as a proportion of the population, this is more than 10x higher than for Iraq over the same number of days.
(We consider
#Gaza’s killed to be overwhelmingly civilians—see
