As someone who was really looking forward to killing the Boss on Nightmarsh and getting access to that Prestige-filled loot room, my motivation took a massive hit if it’s true that the loot has been heavily nerfed. Slowing down progression in The Cradle for everyone who didn’t already max it out also just feels bad. I’m usually not the type of person who says “streamers ruin our games,” but in this case, it kind of feels that way. No one I know target farmed the Boss or exploited loot tweaks, but all of us are getting punished for it. My motivation to kill the Nightmarsh Boss went from 100% to almost 0. I’ll most likely still do it once, but if the loot isn’t worth it anymore, why would you keep doing it? It’s not like this is something you can easily achieve every single run with 100% certainty. Still love the game, still want to play more, but I was really looking forward to this and now it just feels deflating.
We have identified some issues affecting the progression systems and loot economy and will be rolling out a few fixes: Cert containers: Fixing an issue causing more Cert containers to spawn than intended in Night Marsh. Cradle: Given the increased quality and quantity of loot, we've increased progression costs by 25%. We are also still tracking down more issues and will be adjusting loot drops globally while we investigate. We want loot to feel rewarding, but also not flood the economy with too many powerful items early in the season. We'll continue to monitor these systems and feedback closely throughout the season.

So the aftermath of all of this is: as it seems the loot has indeed been adjusted. However, it doesn’t seem to be as bad as I initially assumed. Also, my goal was definitely not to discourage anyone from playing #Marathon. Overall, I’m still having a great time with Season 2. I’ll test the changes myself today and report back.

I want to share my thoughts on the discussion around loot and progression in #Marathon Season 2. I think a big reason why I have been enjoying the game a lot more than at launch is how much more rewarding it feels to invest time into it in so many different ways. From what I was reading here on X, it really seemed like something was “broken” loot-wise. Prestige items were supposedly way too common and progression was overall too easy. As far as I understood, a lot of the complaints were about the loot you can get from the Boss on Nightmarsh and how it was too easy to farm in Sponsored Mode because there is no other team on the map. That makes sense. I had not tried to do that until then, so I started trying to do it too. So here are my thoughts: When it comes to getting to the Boss and killing him in Sponsored Mode, I don’t think it is as easy as it sounded from what I was reading on this platform. To be fair, my group and I didn’t look up any guides and tried to figure everything out on our own. I played with a lot of different people and we still have not managed to do it yet. That was a challenge I was really looking forward to. But more importantly, I realized that it is not that easy to pull off and that the reality being presented here on X did not match my own experience. Sure, the amount of Prestige items could probably be dialed down a bit, but overall I think it is a good thing to have a map besides Outpost that is always available and rewards you with good loot. Especially when playing the normal version of Nightmarsh, I think Bungie did something really great here. They didn’t just make the map dark. They transformed the whole experience and delivered a piece of challenging and engaging content that actually rewards you for completing it. It is so much fun to enter Upper Complex knowing that another team is probably doing the exact same thing on the other side and that you will have to fight them in order to get to the loot. That is so good. I don’t have a problem with nerfing the rarity and amount of loot you get from opening boxes on Nightmarsh, but removing the big goal of getting Prestige loot from the Boss would be a big problem for me personally. Small correction: I initially assumed the Boss loot had been heavily nerfed because of a post here on X. @colleenxellie corrected herself, and it seems that while the loot was indeed nerfed, it is still rewarding. Also, increasing the amount of XP you need to progress The Cradle feels really bad, because now I have to invest 25% more to achieve the same goal as someone who already maxed it out. I’m making this post to show that the “problems” being discussed here on X are not necessarily representative of what the ordinary player is experiencing. I’m not a casual. I play a lot and I think I’m a fairly decent player. But I play everything the game has to offer, instead of grinding one single thing only because it might be the most rewarding. Right now, I feel like I am getting punished for that. And the next time there is a similar situation, I might feel pressured to focus on that one thing immediately because it could get nerfed later and I don’t want to fall behind again. Stop catering to the streamers and creators that put hours into the game before you deploy 'fixes' After everyone puts out guides and have grinded all the loot they want, you 'fix it'. Destiny has done this for years and its deflating as both a player that gets on at reset and grinds, and to anyone that doesn't have time (I.E. lives and jobs, etc.) All the streamers get in and exploit all the loot and everyone has a good laugh about it. This isn't Destiny. Disrespecting the time people have, the time people planned to have and making on the fly changes to the loot and progression economy is probably the worst thing you can do to new and returning players that are not streamers and content creators. I was gonna get on and grind because and now I just feel like all the time I invest is worthless as changes roll out like this. If anyone just picked up the game tonight they are now handicapped. Can't imagine how less committed players feel after reading this knowing they have to sink more time into the game just to get the same rewards as someone that has 12 hours a day to play the game. Top catering to the vocal minority on social media please. The rest of the community that just plays the game without it are getting fucked over here. @MarathonDevTeam @asalisbury @Ziegler_Dev

The Cradle system in Marathon has been such a fun addition to the game. I’m constantly excited to see high tier gear no matter WHAT it is because the worms are always hungry. It’s changed how I play the game and customizing my trees has been fun to experiment with. W system 🫶

#Marathon Season 2 is so good. This finally feels like the version of the game it needs to be. There’s so much more to do now across all maps and every run feels so much more rewarding. Last season wasn’t bad, but Season 2 makes the game feel so much more complete. 💚

So... I recently started playing #Marathon on controller because I honestly really like the feel of it. But after wiping a full squad, I actually felt kind of bad. On MNK, that clip would’ve felt way better. On controller, it just feels... unimpressive. Does it make sense? That’s probably a big downside for me when it comes to choosing MNK vs. Controller. What do you think?
