(1/4) A new paper @brainstimj challenges a foundational assumption in computational models of brain stimulation (neuromodulation/electrical stimulation). Rather than suggest prior predictions were wrong, this paper shows how the suitability of this foundational assumption can be evaluated in any application (FES, SCS, DBS, TMS, tDCS, tACS, ETC, TI...). So this will be interesting...

Our latest paper on multi-locus #TMS uses a 2-coil array and a paired-pulse TMS paradigm to evaluate the optimal orientation for #SICI and #ICF. Worth checking out. 🧠⚡️ @AaltoUniversity , @rjirjirji, @Connect2Brain, @usponline, @cienciausp , @ulfziemann1, @LariKoponen
[Primary motor cortex] Souza et al.: "Multi-channel TMS electronically changes the stimulus orientation in milliseconds. The effect of neuronal refractoriness, short-interval intracortical inhibition, and intracortical facilitation depends on the stimulus orientation. Maximum inhibition and facilitation with conditioning pulse at posterolateral and anteromedial orientation, respectively." Open access: doi.org/10.1016/j.clinph.202…

Where to place an ultrasound transducer to optimally target a specific brain region in a given individual? We developed 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗧𝗨𝗦, a tool that helps TUS researchers to quickly and heuristically select the most promising transducer placement(s). A 🧵 on its functionalities.

Why is motion correction a thing for fMRI but nobody quantifies it during #TMS? Well, we just put out a metric to easily quantify within-session movement of the TMS coil, e.g. due to subject movement. Say hi to pulsewise coil displacement / PCD. doi.org/10.1016/j.brs.2024.0… 🧵 1/5

Placement of the TMS coil is defined via 3 positional (XYZ) and 3 rotational parameters (abc). We set-up PCD with cortical e-field exposure in mind and also provide positional and rotational submetrics if you prefer that. Please have a look at the publication for details. 4/5

Fun to see everybody is submitting abstracts at the very last moment just as I do - 30 abstracts in while I was submitting two 😅 #BrainStimConf

It's been great #OHBM2024, including this weird foto-bomb guy - any ideas who that is? 💣🤯😎
Thanks @OHBM for this great conference! Had a fun time discussing our project on the alignment of resting and task states in semantic cognition in the young and aging brain in Seoul! @labCoPla #OHBM24
